If you turn off your router and then set your wireless card to look for networks, do you see a ton of them? You need to find a channel between 1-11 for your network to operate on. If two use the same one, then they start conflicting.
If you see a network at 1 and 6 then use 11.. The more space between them the better.

You'll need to look in your doc on how to do that.
You may be getting interference from Cordless phones or other wireless routers.
What Frequency does the wireless run on?
Try updating the wireless drivers on your computer and firmware for your wireless card.
