New Forum member AHEAD!

Hey all, I've been trolling the forums here for a week or so now and decided to jump in head first and mix it up with you fine folks. I currently play some online (mostly freerolls trying to take $0 and turn it into $50, at $38 or so at the moment), play at Pirana Poker Tour on Mondays and live in Brantford so I'm gearing up my first 2/5 donkathon at the casino shortly. Anyway, enough introduction, more poker discussion :) Best Regards!

    Well for me, I can walk to the Casino from my house but it might be good for my first time in to have some 'pros' there to show me the ropes. And I'd love to play higher stakes but my bankroll is much weaker than my spirit :)

    lol...I hear ya!

    Just be prepared to have your pockets Aces cracked by 69o, just because it's BIG LICK. The players are worse than most Freerollers online.

    If you can play $5/$10, do it.
  • Take Johnny's word for that.

    If you are going to play $2/5, play so tight that if you swallowed coal you'd crap diamonds.

    and then be prepared, like J said, to have aces cracked by almost anything.

    But they were sooooooted. :)
  • After the bad beats I took Monday (pocket 88's, KK's, QQ's all cracked in an hour, all after seeing a flop) I think I can handle the downswings. For now, the money invested is like paying tuition, learning about Casino play, practicing my reads. Same with the cash games I play, I use that time to work on my game. Eventually I'm shooting to make money but I understand that experience will help me become better and that it may cost me a few bucks to eventually get to the skill level to win a few plus a few bucks. What's a reasonable starting buy-in for 5/10?

    Anything over $200. I'd go for at least $300, but the minimum for the table is $100
  • The most you can lose in one hand of Limit is 12x the Big bet, so at 5/10

    Blinds = SB: $2 BB: $5
    Cap pre-flop = 20
    Cap flop = 20
    Cap turn = 40
    Cap river = 40

    Total = 120

    This is of course unlikely, but you ALWAYS want to have enough money on the table to win the maximum... just in case you flop quads to that boat. So, I would suggest for 5/10 at LEAST $200 to start... $400 would be better.

    Mark
  • I agree with some comments when playing cash games at the casino, I usually play 1/2$ NL and being patient starting with premium hands almost everytime pays off. So I would say be tight if you can.
