Tournament at Casino Niagara

So I played at Casino Niagara today and found out that there is an upcoming tournament on Oct. 29. There isn't much on their website and I didn't get much info asking the people there either. All I know is that you get 1500 in chips, there's qualifying rounds and then a final round, and it's $85. Anyone know any more info?

  • I signed up for this today. There are 3 different qualifying rounds, at 10am, 1pm, and 4 pm i believe. There are also people winning seats to this tourney from HTZ-FM in St Catharines daily, so there should be quite a few people that have very little experience playing poker. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I think this is limited to 264 players they said. I figured i don't have the cash for WPT event, but $85 i can afford. First place for this one is $10,000, and i think $2000 for second. It's supposed to end around 7 or 8 pm so i would imagine the blind structure would be increasing at a fast rate. Let me know if anyone from here is going to enter this. I registered for the 10 am session.
  • A couple of forum members including me played in this annual tournament last year. The blind structure is a horrible crapshoot so it is a waste of money unless you win a seat from the radio station. Fortunately for me, I was staked into the tournament so it was only a waste of time. :(

  • How does 1st place get $10k with 264 runners and $85 (fee included?). Top heavy?
  • It was originally a lucky winner-take-all prize structure, but was changed last year to give a little of the pool to the runners-up. The final table uses the same horrible blind structure. I played in a $60 tournament last night with Skill Level 5, so unless you are a totally unskilled player who just wants to gambool your money away, you can find a better tournament to use the $85 than this Skill Level 0 or 1 crapshoot.

  • The tournement is put on by the radio station from St Catharines, so I'm assuming the majority of the money is coming from their advertising budget. Thanks for the info Blondefish, that was pretty much what i was expecting with regards to the blind structure. It's just an excuse for me to take the day off of work.
  • Yeah, I was going to use it as an excuse to get off work too, lol. I know the structure wouldn't be great but it is quite tempting with the 10k for first.
