Hand for discussion

Playing a $1 MTT on Gutshot poker tonight.
Currently I'm in 20th place (36 get paid) of the 310 that started.

Table has been pretty much limpers with a couple usually calling a LP raise.
Colette30 has been limping/calling a small raise then folding on the flop.

  • You have to bet over 10% of Colette's stack. I would have bet at least $1k. Maybe $1012.30. haha

You are barely betting 1/2 the pot. You are giving a flush draw/straight draw + 2 overs odds to call.
  • Yup make'em pay you've got a premium hand.

$1000 is a great sized bet because it creates a perfect sized pot. You can jam a safe turn with another pot sized bet and in a $1 donkament you'll get paid by KK, QQ, JJ, A-10, K-10, probably Q-10 and a ton of shitty draws.
  • I think the bet size is just "ok"....if he pushs you can fold, but you are letting him see the turn.

Did he play something stupid like 78?

Too small pre-flop and too small post-flop.
  • I agree with -ev.

(-ev, will you ever go back to comments closer to the one you made for the music video? I miss those.)

I could comment on that fine ass displayed in your avatar if you'd like.
  • Have to agree. Played it poorly and was stacking his chips in my mind.
Put him on to narrow a range of hands and got married to my Aces.

Should have played it more straight forward.
It got worse and I am embarrassed to post this, but here goes. Slag away at my donkey play. :(

    Colette30 called - $797.30

** Dealing the turn: King of Diamonds
    Colette30 checked
    Hobbes614 went all-in - $2885.40
    Colette30 called - $2885.40
Colette30 shows: Queen of Spades, Jack of Hearts

** Dealing the river: 4 of Diamonds
Colette30 wins $8960.00 from the main pot
  • Small buy in tournies like these are almost identically to middle/late stages of freerolls. You're gonna have so many call stations, I shove really hard when I get Aces or Kings. Sad thing is he'd probably have called 1-2K bet anyways with his draw.
  • 5$ she called no matter what you bet
  • Hi Hobbes. You have always seemed like a knowledgeable player who gives solid input here on the forum. When we used to play regular forum tournaments you were a player who I never looked to get involved with.

With that being said, Why are you playing $1MTT's? and do you think that in playing $1MTT's your own play is less sharp?

    Thanks for the compliment caddy.

Basically playing the $1 MTT's for 2 reasons:

    1) trying to build up a bankroll on a site. I've moved it from $0 to 27.80 with freerolls, a bonus and playing LLNLHE games.
    2) Haven't played MTT's regularly online for about 6 months before that and I am getting back into them.

Still play my regular buy-ins so that my own play stays sharp.

That was exactly what I thought, and exactly why I thought it. At least bet the pot here, and make your oppt's pay to try to draw out on you.
