Went out 38/1615 in a 60k tourney last night. I'm happy with the way everything went. As Beanie said, it was mostly a case at the end of getting action on my steals and no action on my big hands.

This is the only hand I don't feel good about and I went out 2 hands later. I'll take any comments. Thanks.

Villian had just sat down and I had no read on him. Ave stack at this point is about 200k.

  • Gj on the placing

Did you place in the money?
  • Yeah, that is one of those trapped yourself style hands and one of the problems with folding when you did is that it crushes your mood as well and even though you are still a bit above desperation mode (you had about 8x BB left ) the mood will likely cause a shove with a marginal hand (A rag in early position) that normally you would not do.

That run-on comment aside, I guess with the stack you had I might have either shoved or called on the flop. The call if you hit a 5 outer to improve your hand and/or see what villain does next if you do not. If you fold on a turn brick/bet by opponent then you still have about 12x BB in chips.

Of course if villain does the dorky super small bet on turn then you continue to be in that tilt inducing frustration hell that is created when opponents straddle that line between completely brilliant and idiotic play while you hold a marginal hand.
  • Villain leads out for less than 1/3rd of the pot, headsup, on a very draw heavy board... this says to me he has a drawing hand and wants to see it for cheap. You raise... but leave yourself enough to fold if he reraises, so he pushes knowing its only costing him less than 1/3rd of his stack if you call and he misses.

FWIW I think raising on this flop if you intend to fold to a push is a total waste of chips. Stacks aren't deep enough, and he has you covered 3-1 so "I raised to see where I'm at" doesn't apply. I think Watts would say "Push or fold". And Watts does seem to have a decent record deep in MTTs.

  • Bad steal attempt from the cutoff. You really don't have the chips to do that esp against an unknown player still to act.

The small blind called getting 2:1 on his call and he's oop. Since you have no read on him, gotta give him some some credit for a hand here. Plus he has a big stack, so he's not a complete donk.

With that, I am not real sure where I am in the hand with him. He bet out on the flop into the raiser. I think your only choice here is Push or Fold since your raise only leaves an M of about 3.

I fold to the flop bet (even though my m is only 6).

    Congrats on the finish though.

    :)
