Western Fair Casino in London

The Western Fair Casino in London will have poker, blackjack and Giant Wheel from September 7-16. Hours are noon to 4 AM.

Is anybody here interested in carpooling, e.g., if you are working or want to spend 8 hours at the Western Fair? I will be coming from the QEW.

  • If I recall correctly, isn't Niagara closer? Or do you just want a change of scenery/players? Just curious.
  • maybe Blondefish. Online poker is boring right now. I have a hankering for some live limit. What are they spreading?

Exactly. The tables will be full of casual (=useless) players.

Isn't casual/useless players a good thing? Or does casual/useless=rocks? I'm not familiar with poker lingo so do enlighten me.
  • It'll be like CNE. +EV for anyone who has the slightest clue in what they are doing, but be prepared to endure hours of bad beats by players and bad dealers.
  • I'll find out on opening night when I'll be there until 4 AM. You can also try phoning Western Fair at 1-800-619-4629.

  • I see...kinda like how it was a year ago at Niagara in my opinion.
  • I haven't played at the CNE, but speaking with those who have played both, the quality of play at the Western Fair is better overall (maybe thanks to all the KW players?).

They're spreading 5/10 LHE only this year.

Isn't $2-5 through say, $20-40 at Brantford still full of donkeys? Maybe not 10 to the flop donkeys, but still donkeys nonetheless. Keep in mind, I haven't played there in several months, but I am getting a hankering to go back. And I haven't actually played the $20-40, I just picture a typical $10-20 game and sprinkle in a couple spazzy LAGs.
  • are you sure they're only spreading 5/10?

they've had an overflowing list for 10/20 every year I've gone...

and I wouldn't waste your time if you're coming in from QEW...just hit brantford or niagara instead. The lists are lonnnnng, the beverages aren't free (and consequently overpriced), and the dealers are terrible. I remember one year a dealer refused to ship a pot to a player with the better kicker on a board of 33334. He chopped it! rofl

The good side for me is that I live in london so I don't have to fork out for gas. Also, there's a giant window area where u get to see the rodeos and demolition derbies, whenever they're on. And when 10/20 was run, there's no session fee...just a rake up to $5. Depending upon how you're running, this could be good or bad.

I know. I'm going by what the Western Fair website says though.
  • It's pretty much the same as CNE Casino - $10/20 and $5/10, with the same house rules. I saw Elvis performing at the Grandstand from the casino window. Other Grandstand shows include Demoliton Derby, Extreme Motocross, The Nylons and Mr. "You got to know when to hold 'em" himself, Kenny Rogers.

I recognized several people at the casino. I ended up carpooling home. I will probably carpool again on Sunday night until 4 AM.

  • I have played two sessions at the Western Fair. Max rake is $7.50.

Of the 6 dealers that I have seen only one of them is as competent as the Brantford dealers.

The overall play is pretty weak although there have been 2-3 pretty strong players in each session. $5/$10 here is like $2/5 in Brantford. Expect 6-7 players to see a flop. Some of the pots can get quite large and if you stay patient you will eventually get paid.

Last night I played from 8pm to 2:30am & was dealt garbage from start to finish. Position helped me win a few hands as I played almost anything from the button. I survived the first 6 hours by folding hand after hand until I won a $250 pot on my second last hand hitting my flush on the turn.

Although the deck was cold it may have been the most enjoyable table I have played at in a long time. There were numerous bad beats and suckouts but everybody handled themselves well and there were lots of laughs.

As I stated earlier if you can stay patient you will get paid. The better players suffered the most suckouts but at the end of the night they were the ones who walked away with a $300-400 profit.
