  • Honestly...

I don't mind the way you played it overall... Sure his AQ was "well disguised" by his pre-flop limp / weak play, but I'm assuming in mid-hand, your "spidey-sense" was going off...

Pre-flop, OOP and a moderate hand, check works for me

Flop, Top pair, decent kicker, bet 2/3 the pot is nice - get min-raise (wussy bet) is odd, and I may have re-raised here to tell strength, but that would have just swelled the pot too much for top pair. You also have a gutshot draw, so calling at least is almost mandatory here.

Turn, non scary card, I don't mind the check, and his bet isn't too out of line - here's the only place I may have folded, figuring KQ is possible and I may be muttering something along the lines of "This f**king fishy motherf**ker didn't limp with a f**king AQ did he?" (hence costing me like $1 at beanie's place for the swear jar).

River, well, that's a call me bet - and the pesky thing about call me bets is, we usually call them. Pot's up to $1500 to call $350.. more swear jar mutterings, and a call from me.

I'm curious to see what others think here.. but as I said, the turn's the only place I think about getting away from it (of course, this is "in a vacuum" without reads).

  • 1. Don't play with guys that will limp AQ in a $30 sng. :D
    2. You need to have a read. If the guy is SO weak tight that he limps AQ, then maybe his min raise tells you that he must have a big hand that beats you. I don't know. Did he bet like that with less than top pair before? Is he loose - could he be playing Q with weaker kicker than yours? The only kickers you beat are Q9 and Q7 or weaker. You have to tell us what his play was until that point.
    3. You got out of the hand for another 750. (Flop call of his min. raise + 300 +350). Only other thing you could have done is repopped another 600 on the flop. In which case, you save 50 chips on the hand.

Yuck, this stinks! The villian is looking to lose big pots! Take note and bust him later.

As for the hand I think you played the hand fine. You lost close to the minimum. There only two ways I think you can lose less in this situation but I'm not so sure with this villian that even these would have worked.

    1. Raise preflop in an attempt to see where this UTG limper is at. Again, with this villian I wouldn't be surprised with a call and therefore giving you little information and probably costing you more overall throughout the hand on future streets.

    2. Rereraise the flop to $500 folding to a push. Yet again though, this villian could be passive enough to call the rereraise leaving you in an ackward place on the turn.

I think the best play would have been option 2 with your actual play being a very close second. Not to mention that option 2 could have ended up costing you more depending on the villian's play.

Yucky cold deck for you there but jugding by your stack size things weren't all bad.
  • I'd probably raise preflop
