Casino Brantford.

I'm thinking of going this weekend (playing 2-5 or 5-10). I know it is strictly limit. Just wondering if anyone has been there? Weak players? Filled with sharks?

Comments

  • I've played 2-5

Weak players, calling stations, rarely raised. Don't slowplay, don't outright bluff.

  • I second what DrTyore said.

    No bluffing; doesn't work.
Pay attention alot of the players like to share the hands they folded.

If you see the guy with the AP hat and jacket try and get his table. He's an ATM

Have patience. I've managed to pull down a few sweet pots of almost $100 playing 2-5.
    It's a beatable game.
  • 2-5 is a very beatable game, just don't tilt to bad when your Aces are cracked by 6-9. ("What I had to play it, it's BIG LICK!"

5-10 is a good game, just watch out for the 10-20 sharks who are waiting for high limit spots.

    .

Actually you can. In one hand last year, I was the button with 22, of course I just call with 5-6 players to the flop. The flop comes down with an Ace and 2 clubs. The SB bets and it's folded to me, I cold call.

The turn comes a third club the SB player ACTUALLY SIGHED as he checked. I fired a $5er on the felt and he folded! heehee...

I have found that some of the $10-$20 players do not play their normal game when playing $5-$10. I have seen on several occasions while waiting for a $10-$20 table where they have been extremely impatient, playing far too many hands, and bluffing on a regular basis.

I felt as though they were not giving enough credit to $5-$10 players and try to push them off pots.

  • 2/5 is the easiest game i have ever played every1 is so dumb. if u have something bet if u even have a draw bet it ull get called if u dont hit what u loose 7 bucks? and u still might even have the ebst hand. i had aces and told everyone at the table that i ahd them of course no1 beleive me and i win like a $85 pot. one guy acually fell asleep at the table. the dealer deals him cards the action is on him and the player beside him slams the table the guy jumps up and falls backwards on his chair onto the ground people are so bad there

    Uh....ouch.
  • I've only been there once. I'm naturally a no limit player so limit I find limit very frustrating. I agree never try to bluff you won't push them all off. Watch out every single time 3 of a suit pop up, people there seem to hold onto any 2 suited cards. Just see a lot of cheap flops and and follow the high chance draws. Just keep betting when you have a monster, almost all hands go to the river so get paid as much as you can when you can.

Low limit tables are a chasers game... so you can definately make money off it.
  • And slow down if an Ace hits on the flop (unless you have one). Someone will have one most of the time.

The players are mostly the Flush chasing bingo monkeys / Ace chasers. Although it's nice to be paid off from a Ten high flush when you have the nut flush (with 4 on the board...)

I'll second that. You'll get guys waiting on the 10-20 or 20-40 game (because they think they're too good to play the "little game"). Naturally they'll be out of line a lot with insane bluffs, and playing wide ranges for 3-4 bets preflop since they "naturally" outclass the $5-10 chumps postflop. They're aggro monkeys that "can't win, because nobody folds" (the hallmark of every bad limit player). Most of the time these guys are just gambooling anyways...

There's not much of a secret to crush these games, it's all about valuebetting them to death.
  • Well I had my visit to Brantford. To get the bad news out of the way, I finished down about $10 for the day at 2/5. Just basically hovered around my initial buyin for the whole time...I think the highest I got was $120 from my initial $100 and was down to about $60 at one point. Just a "blah" day overall card-wise....draws that didn't come in...river suckouts...you know the drill.

First of all, it is the best room I've seen in Ontario. For those who haven't been there, it is actually a separate poker room from the rest of the casino with its own cashiers cage and stuff. The staff seem friendly and the room is well-organized and well-run. If you are looking for a good limit poker room, this is it.

Now the players....sheesh. You guys were right. There were some decent players at my table...and some pretty bad ones. Y'know, the ones who call two raises with K-4 offsuit and somehow win.

You can bluff....but you need a tight image to do it AND you need position. If you are last to act, and there is no raise pre-flop, and is checked around to you....take a stab. I found it funny when one guy said he thinks I just play the nuts while I was stacking up my latest pot with just a 7-3 offsuit (of course no one saw those cards). I was able to do this a few times to keep my head above water.

Word of advice...get there early on weekends. I was there around 9:00AM and had to wait at least an hour before they opened another table. When I left around 6PM, the room was full and the waitlists were at least ten to fifteen people for each of the limits available.

Couple of funny/amusing things I saw (at least I thought so):

    1. I happened to glance over and saw a book that someone had brought with them at another table: Ed Miller's Small Stakes Hold'em...for some reason that struck me funny. Why don't they just advertise that they are actively looking to improve their game and tell the table they may know what they are doing....

    2. One of the older guys mentioned to another player that he has been playing poker for over 30 years and had only had one royal flush. That person was amazed that he only had seen one royal flush...I was amazed that he was playing poker for over 30 years and hadn't advanced past 2-5 limit....

    3. A husband and wife were at my table. The guy happened to mention to the table that this was his wife's first time playing.....thank god she was sitting on my immediate right....she got bluffed by me a couple of times.

All in all....if you are looking for no-limit...go to Niagara...if you are looking for limit....Brantford is the place to go.

I was playing 2-5 late one night when they broke a 20-40 game. They seated 2 of the 20-40 players at our table (I think they were killing time until a spot at 10-20 opened). They sat them at opposite ends of the table and between the two of them, they capped every street of every hand.

Destroyed the flow of the table naturally. I didn't appreciate it for sure. I don't care that they don't care about the money, but I was trying to play "real" poker and they were just fucking around.

My point being that it's not that they think that they can outplay the 2-5 guys, they just don't care because it costs them at most 3 BB.
  • I don't mind the Brantford Casino. Sure, not a huuuge fan of Limit poker, but it is a very nice room, secluded, and it's a short distance away. I mainly play the 2/5 table, I've played there 9 times now, and have walked out 7 of those times ontop a good 40 bucks atleast. It's a game you can beat...sure you get bad beats, but thats what you get for playing chasers. I'm a young looking guy, well I am 22 but I look 19 lol, I like having the older guys beside me that say "oh you shouldn't raise in that position" I was 3rd to act and had AA, I was thinking...why not, why put 2 bucks in, then have the whole table call and get beat by some crap ass hand...alot of older men think they know, but they have no idea. I like the guys who wear poker hats, for some reason I find them very weak and they go on tilt easy..ATM machines. I went one Friday morning at 6:30 am, walked out at 10 am with over 200 bucks, was a nice day lol. I've been there early again before, walked out with over 100, I find that the older ppl who swear there low pairs are winning play at those times and the guys who been there all night trying to break even still struggling there trying to make money...thats the best time, 6:30-8, be there at those times and have fuuuun!

My bankroll is high up, I only play here cause when I'm not in Fallsview, I want a game. I go to Fallsview 3 times a week, and haven't been working all summer, been making money, paying for my car, insurance, rent, all of that. I hate driving out by myself...you think if I stayed in Brantford, played the 20/40 table...I could make my living still this summer off of it before school?:qc:qc

Good point. IMO it's a combination of cockiness and not caring about the stakes (ie "let's gambool!") Probably 30% former and 70% latter. Because it's generally more "fun" to play like a LAG than a TAG (assuming you don't care if you win).
and the guys who been there all night trying to break even still struggling there trying to make money...thats the best time, 6:30-8, be there at those times and have fuuuun!

I totally agree based on my limited live experience. The wee hours say between 5-8 where it's neither really night nor morning where everyone's on lack of sleep and the stuck players are generally on tilt is an utter goldmine. Many a game can turn utterly ridiculous since often one loose cannon that goes on tilt can cause 2-3 others to join him/her. In general, I find this about the time when things get really fun, or can get really infuriating (buckle your seatbelts in for the variance ride).
  • Man I love Brantford. Went there again late Friday night. Turned my $100 into $190 at the blackjack table waiting on the $2-5 table list. Played poker for a couple hours completely controlling the table and ended up with $360 by the time I went home. I should have played a bigger table but it had been a while since I had played limit.

I was a little surprised because after a couple wins the table started playing me honest. I was able to start buying pots after the turn. It was playing like a higher limit table for some reason... which was a nice suprise :). I mean at least a couple times I was able to get 4-5 people to fold with a bet after the turn... that is unusual for the cheap limit table. And I got enough decent hands to collect some good pots too.

I haven't been able to play since the Kitchener games started getting taken down. It was sure nice to go get my fix and be on my game for it :).
  • Went back Friday night. Man there was a dude there with a massive stack playing the 2-5 table I was at. He went on a streak like I have never seen. For 2 hours he was playing about 80% of the hands dealt all the way to the river and winning at least half of those. This is at a full 10 person table. And he wasnn't getting good hands... just constantly catching with any two cards. He had so many chips he'd follow any draw and catch more often then not. It was insane.

Over those 2 hours I tightened up to him to stay alive but still saw my chips go from $190 to about $40.

Finally his streak ended and he was forced to tighten up again and I could start playing poker again. Over the next hour I got back up to $150 when my bro ran out of chips so I called it a night.

What a crazy streak, dude was taking down big pots against good hands with like Q 2 offsuit.

I think I'll just stick to 5/10 from now on.
  • Were you at table 107 ?
    About 10 stacks of whites?
    Back corner.

If so, I know who you mean.
I played the table till a spot opened on the 5/10 table.
  • I can't remember the table number... if you walk in the room it was on the far left wall one table back from the back wall. I was sitting to the right of the dealer... tall white guy, dark hair, goatie, black shirt. The guy I am talking about was dark skinned and wearing a red touque sitting with his back to the left wall.

I was there from 11:00pm until 2:30am... I think the guy had been there since 1:00pm.
  • Let's see if I know my table numbers, with 101 being the far back left, and 102 being the table The_Awesome was sitting at.

107 is the back right corner isn't it?

and I was at the table at the front right...
  • zunni74 wrote: »
and I was at the table at the front right...

    That is 110 I think.
  • Zunni's right, The_Awesome was sitting at table 2.
Far left back wall is table 1 followed by table 2, table 3 and table 12 in the row. The middle row has tables 4,5,6,11 and the far right row has tables 7,8,9 and 10. So seven is the last table on the row on your right when you walk in by the poker brush.
    Just my little contribution.
  • You people are seriously sick.

Bonus points for the person who can name the most dealers.

Degenerate points for anybody who can name the lady working the 6/49 kiosk in Casino Brantford.

Yep. Funny there were 3 forumers at the casino at the same time but none of us were at the same table, we need to come up with handsigns we can flash when we sit down so we can find each other :)
Bonus points for the person who can name the most dealers.

I won't embarass myself by listing all the ones I know, but I think I could win those points.

    LMAO.

The only dealer I remember is Steve, who bears a freaky resemblance to Bristol St. Regular "ALL-IN!!" Steve.
