Where do you make your money in LHE?

I was playing at RAMA the other day and I was curious as to how you think you make your money when playing limit hold'em. Do you think people in general call too much or do they fold too much after calling pre-flop. or some other mistake?

  • The most common of the 8-12 mistakes in poker is calling when you should fold.
  • I think in the long run, I make the most from being called down with an underpair after I preflop raise with JJ-AA.

My biggest pots usually come from hitting sets against overpair.

In the long run, my biggest losses are busted straights.

Funny, as you move up, it becomes folding when you should call :-)

This will sound like a bit of a contradiction.

The most common mistake preflop is calling too much.
The most egregious error I see is too much cold calling.

Playing correctly preflop is necessary but not sufficient for playing well enough to win money.

Most of my money is won postflop, where is consists of getting 2 bets from the opponent rather than 1 or 3 bets from them rather than 2.
  • The 5-6 mistakes is comman, No-limit hold 'em was once only a tournament game. Cash games were rarely spread in conventional poker rooms. Here we can make more money.
