What are your thoughts on this play?
I found this on a softball board I use to visit when I played ball. Still keeping tabs on it every once and a while. I actually played against this guy at pockets.
What are your thoughts on folding ACES pre-flop with 12 people before the money starts

For you card players you should know that this event is currently in progress in Las Vegas. Entry fee is 10k US. Last August 2006, myself and 10 of my high school friends played together once a month at a cost of $250-$300 per month. After each monthly game the money raised would be split, half would go to the top 3 winners that night and the rest would go in the 'bank'. A point system was developed(25 for 1st 20 for 2nd etc) and the end result would be sending the point leader at the end our tourney in June 2007 to the WSOP. He got 15k, 10k for the entry and 5k for hotels and spending. However he finished in the WSOP would be spilt with him winning half of his winnings and us 10 players splitting the other half.(I finished 4th)
There were 6,358 players in this years tourney with all kinds of pros and stars.
I just received a call from my friend, Kevin Howatt, that he finished below the 'bubble line' of 621 players remaining!!!
He/we are guarenteed $21,000.00! He has 180k in chips and Gus Hanson has close to 800k. The last 3 hours of the bubble cut line he basivcally fold everything, including pocket aces, so that he would finish in the money.
I thought I would share this as this is a great way to attend the event of a lifetime without forking over the 10k. Here's hoping he lasts longer as the tourney runs 12-16 hours a day for another week!!
We start up again next month for next years tourney.

Cheers, Dano
PS
I should say for the record, I think it was a bad play, but these softball players thought it was pretty good. I guess that is why they are softball players. Althought a math professor st University of Waterloo tried to convince me it is the right play.

21K .. 11K to him (about what he had before the tournament) and 1K/person (which is less than they likely bought in for over the months).
.. or if he wins, say 700K..
350K to him, 35K each...
PLay the fkkin aces sheesh.

David Levi Rivers a One Outer
David Levi was all in with against Kevin Howatt's A-K. Howatt flopped a Ace and was ahead until Levi rivered a case King. He won the pot with a set. His stack increased to 350,000.

On a side note I forced a guy to fold AA preflop because he didn't want to lose the $500 he was up in a 1/2 NL cash game. There was a $20 raise and a 3 calls I pushed for $650 and buddy agonized for 10 minutes before he said he had to fold, he showed the guy beside him AA, everyone else folded. When I found out after wards he had folded AA since he said he always loses with that hand I couldn't believe it. Going to make me think before I push for that kind of money again.
Before anyone says I"m an idiot, I pushed because in that game "proper" raises get no respect as you can see from a $20 raise UTG and 3 callers to me.
If your raise even folds out aces preflop, what hand are you expecting to call? Joker Joker? ;-)
I commend your game selection ...
Can I play with them?
If he's at the WSOP is folding AA, raise any two when you get him heads up preflop on the bubble.
Is there anybody else interested in having a similar WSOP/WPT league?
P.S. What were the details of the AA hand? I would very rarely fold it since my goal is to maximize EV, but there are a few situations where folding AA pre-flop would be correct.
