  • Wait...just a minute now...

There are LOSERS in poker?? Why didn't anyone tell me??

What a stupid article! It's called gambling for a reason...look up the definition. It's risk versus reward, and there will always be more losers than winners. So what's the point of printing something that makes it sound like a crime to freely risk a person's money? It's called PRO CHOICE!
  • I guess he forgot to mention how many millions are lost daily on lotteries.
  • There are some good points if you read between the lines. There are more losers in this tournament than winners and some of these people can't really afford to be there. I feel bad for the students wasting their time trying to make a quick buck on the internet playing poker, when their time is better spent reading a textbook which will lead to a decent job. If it was easy, everybody would do it.

Well the bottom line is poker is gambling and it is bad for you....but Horse/ Dog track racing, betting on the Super Bowl, NCAA March Madness bets is just good ole' American fun and is not gambling.
  • Can't feel bad for anyone who knowingly plays outside their range, financially or skillfully. It's their choice to play, nobody is twisting their arm to do it. Sure, it appears to be easy money, but if they only listen to the pros more, they'll know it's not that easy.
  • I know people who play above their means, & I feel sorry for them. Many of them are addicted, they're convinced they have bad luck & that their day will come. Many of these people can be heard saying 'anyone can win', I think they've heard that phrase on TV a lot.

Of course anyone can win. But eventually, most will lose it sooner or later.
  • For a Canadian article about problem gambling, click here.
The five-year study will focus on all forms of gambling lottery tickets, casinos, horse racing, sports betting, VLTs, bingo halls and raffles as well as all levels of gambling, from serious to social.

"There is a lot of interest in gaining a better understanding of both social and problem gambling," said Hodgins. "There are a lot of strong opinions on gambling, but very little data."

Albertans wanting to participate in the study should call 1-888-897-0810.
