PLO $100 hand

I had 4 actions on this hand and after reviewing it I think I made the wrong move on all of them. This hand shows that you can make all the right moves and lose, or make all the wrong moves and win.

Some people might read this history and be shocked that I’m playing these limits considering how I played.

Does anyone think any of these moves were correct?

1) Maybe the least of my mistakes but I don’t think limping this knowing I need a king on the flop or some ridiculous combination of 8’s and 3’s to play. I must add I was seeing as many hands as I could for cheap with my stack.

nutsnot1: calls $1
28kgbarra: calls $0.50
wildbet: raises to $5
Quimby: calls $4

2) BB raises, this is AAxx a lot of the time. I suppose I could see the flop with a good idea of his hand

nutsnot1: calls $4
28kgbarra: folds
FLOP
[Ad 5h Kd]
wildbet: bets $16
Quimby: raises to $64

3) raising the PFR who bets pot on A high flop?

nutsnot1: folds
wildbet: raises to $208
Quimby: is all-in $112.75
4) calling the all in knowing I’m most likely 1 out. I was actually thinking in my head “What am I doing?” as I made the call.

Returned uncalled bets $31.25 to wildbet
TURN
[Ad 5h Kd][Qs]
RIVER
[Ad 5h Kd Qs][Ks]
SHOW DOWN
wildbet: shows [Ac 7h Jd As] (A Full House, Aces full of Kings)
Quimby: shows [3s Kh 8s Kc] (Four of a kind, Kings, Ace high)
Quimby collected $366.50 from Main pot
SUMMARY
Total pot $369.50 Main pot $366.50 Rake $3
Board [Ad 5h Kd Qs Ks]
Seat 1: Quimby showed [3s Kh 8s Kc] and won ($366.50) with Four of a kind, Kings, Ace high
Seat 4: wildbet (big blind) showed [Ac 7h Jd As] and lost with A Full House, Aces full of Kings

I'm thinking that folding in any one of those 4 spots would have been the correct play.

Okay ... if it's a mistake it's a small one given the stack sizes.

    Not too bad.
Sure for such a small price given the stack sizes it's okay

I think I have a primal limbic response that goes like this...

Sometimes I do stupid reptile reaction plays.

Yesterday went all in with jacks when an ace flopped .

I think it goes something like this.

    I see a scary flop.

The reptilian amygdala of my brains dumps chemicals in that causes me to react with fear fight or flight. I respond to the fight or flight with aggressiveness.

Before my reasoning brain can do anything my reptile amygdala brain tells me to push the raise button.

Stage is set to clean up on wildbet if he rebuys while steaming about the one out suck out...

PS I'm an Omaha newbie. I want to learn more about how to play Omaha
  • If am in with that hand, I think I want to buy the button with a pf raise. But you are basically going in with 1/2 a hand, which is trouble, because a good Omaha hand, has 6 hands against your KK. Better to have K3s K8c or KK 87s that has more multi-way hands.

Ok if I am in this hand and I get raised, especially if I have raised and then been reraised, then I am still calling. Flopping 2 pr, usually guarantees you have AA beat.

On the flop, villian pots for the second time. I think I can lay this down, only a maniac pots again, after potting from the BB without position on the flop, without knowing that he is committing the rest of his chips to this pot.

That being said, ok, you want to know for sure if he has AA, so you repot. You probably didn't need to go that high but at any rate, he pots again for the third time. I don't need to know anymore. The smoke signals have turned into neon lights, :ac :ah . Knowing I have one out, I am finished for sure here.
  • You are too hard on yourself. Yes, the lead-out and re-pot after raising from the BB signifies a monster hand but at the same time, unless you know the guy is squeaky tight can you be sure that 2nd set isn't good?

The flop texture is a little rough (ie, easier to fold on.. whats he betting A5?) but you can't be too wrong if you get it all in the middle with 2nd set on a drawless(ish) board
  • Thanks for pointing out how donky PLO can be. Decided to give it a spin and had a fantab-u-riffic night! DrTyore, note I think I made back the $1.86 I donked off at $0.01/0.02 last night.
