Here's something you don't see everyday

I witnessed the biggest donkey move at a table in my short poker career this weekend.

Unfortunately it happened as I was first sitting down to the $1/2 NL at casino Niagara friday night (sat morn) around 1:30am. So I don't have as much back story as I'd like; but here's what happened:

As I sit down the board is showing 2d 6d jd, and player A has checked. Player B bets out $20 ( it appears there is about $60 in the pot already, maybe $50). Player A comes over the top for the rest of his chips, another $50. Player B insta-calls.

So player A- beaming he got his chips in on this hand clearly- turns over 7-8 of diamonds for the flush. Player B keeps his hand facedown in front of him.

Turn comes - blank (4 of spades I think).

Player B <- YEP the DONK - decides this hand is unwinnable and mucks his cards face down towards the pile of folded cards.

River 3d

Dealer declares player A the winner (since player B mucked) chips are pushed toward player A. Now he is curious what hand the guy would of mucked, though he already has an idea what hand would of instacalled the flopbet.

Sure enough the dealer turns over 4c - Ad.... the would-be winning hand.

First of all... why muck at the turn?? (he possibly mistook the turn for the river.. but wow) And Secondly... how did he have the guts to go and refill his stack at the cashier, and continue to play against a table full of people who were still laughing at his "very big retardation" <- as borat would say.

Anyway.. it was 1:30am on saturday morning.. and luckily he did give me some of his chips before he went out for good. Played until 4am, didn't have much in the way of cards but ended up ahead, so that's always good. Also, around 3am there were three gents fresh from a large Indian Wedding(I've never been to one, but from the looks of these guys... there is a LOT of alcohol served), who refused to listen to the dealers requests of "English only at the table"... but that's another story for another day.

  • LOL that is a good one, 3rd of all why muck any hand before the river when your heads up all in. and why would you bet and call so much with ace crap kicker..

thats what we call a fish :)

I woulda followed him around all night!!!
  • Equally (if not more) silliest fold i've seen by a donkey the other day at Fallsview.

Playing $100 max, puck (donkey) raises, both blinds call.

Flop is K high ALL HEARTS

Check check to puck, he checks.

    Turn is HEART

Check check to puck, he checks.

    RIVER pairs BOARD

Suddently, player 1 leads out $50 into a $20 pot. The (donkey) puck OPEN MUCKS KK for the table to see. Everyone loses their mind, as he folded 2nd nut to Quads. He stumbled off mumbling something about not seeing board pair, but honestly. If you flop top set on a board like that, are you not screaming in your head 'pair the board'.

An even worse mistake is the good players laughing the at the donk. I would have done everything I could to make him feel better...
  • If player A asked to see player B's hand, and player B's hand is the winner then Player A loses the pot, regardless of the 'tap the muck' ritual.

I don't think that is Casino Niagara's policy. The hand was mucked face down... if you don't protect your hand, you won't win the pot. Just like if you only show one card in a showdown and then toss your hand in, you won't win.

I hardly even believe I'm reading it right... there are chimps with severe head injuries that could play better than that. ???

Except that the hand was not at showdown as Player B mucked ON THE TURN card. There was no need for the dealer to put the river card out, therefore Player A would not get to see Player B's cards so they could not become live again.

    But thanks for playing....

Good point. So why did the dealer even finish the hand?

From what I remember the player mucking his cards was all-in, and his muck wasn't instant when the turn came, so it was probably closer to when the dealer started to flip the river.

Does the fact he was all in mean the dealer must deal all the cards? Or can go all in preflop, and then fold on the flop, and the dealer won't even finish the board?
