Long Weekend - Resort Recommendations ??

Anyone been to Delewana Resort with the family for the long weekend? Was it a good experience? Any other resorts that are recommended with children's programs? Thinking about a short trip up north in a couple of weeks. Cheers.

thanks but we want to head north. GWL is a good destination but we are looking for less urban (although the casino is tempting).
  • http://www.redumbrellainn.com/index.htm This is where I go ice fishing. The Sunday Brunch is awesome, and I would drive up there just for that. The hostess is great, but reading through their website I just realized its more adult oriented. Scratch that.

http://www.bellhavenpark.com/ This is where my trailer is, I am up there pretty much every weekend. If you are looking for camping this is a great place. Great spot with lots of stuff for kids, and poker games Fri and Sat. Bingo games on Sat. Close to Peterborough Zoo (free admission), The Peterborough Lift Lock is great to see in action too.

My family goes to Fern Resort in Orillia. I've been going there since I was a kid, and now, my wife and I take the kids. The programs for our kids (6 years of age) are fanstatic.

Plus, as an added bonus, it's less than a 5 minute drive to Rama!

    GO SABRES (please!!)
  • thanks for the suggestions; the only thing I didn't like about Fern was the separate charge for kids. Whereas some of the resorts allow two kids for free. Keep the suggestions coming. Anyone else heading up to cottage country for the long weekend?
  • So?

    Where did you end up?

    How was it?

    Details details.......
  • we ended up going to www.delewana.com in Muskoka. Its a great deal if you have kids under 12 as two are free for the entire weekend. The place is really run well and they have camp for kids running most of the time so you can drop the kids off throughout the day and they are well taken care of. They also own a small island five minutes away by boat that you can also explore. During the evening, they have special guests come in (birds of prey, reptiles, hypnotist, etc.) which are great for the entire family. The meals are excellent although they are buffet style, but in a nice dining room overlooking the Bay). My only beef was the room which was a little dated and the water pressure was non-existent, but its the cottage so its expected. Funny story, we arrive on the Friday and are reading the schedule for the weekend, and what catches my attention but a Texas Holdem Adult Clinic and tournament. I go to the cottage to get away from poker, and what do you know, I get a chance to play a little cards :) Too bad only four people showed up but we played for an hour and it was a nice diversion. I would definitely recommend it for families with young children looking to get away from the city.
