Online poker will get you arrested...
... and, you will steal $600 from your father.
At least, that's what Degrassi: TNG tells us! In case you missed it last night, it's on the web. The episode is called "Sunglasses as Night" and it can be accessed here: www.ctv.ca/mini/degrassi2006/index.html
Just click on "Miss an episode?", and then on "Sunglasses at Night". They actually spend a fair part of the episode dealing with the guy's online poker problem, you can skip the rest.
My favourite part: they cut to a shot of the screen as he's playing online poker. He wins a pot, and then a button pops up that says: "PLAY AGAIN?", at which point he clicks "OK" to play another hand. I've never seen that at any site I've played on, but then again, I've never stolen $600 from my dad either, so WTF do I know...

I know the writers/producers have always tried to appeal to the US market, but come on! Oooh.....online poker is bad....ooohh. BOO!
Seriously, Degrassi:TNG? Give me the retro 80s (aka..cheesy) CBC version any day of the week!
Indeed they could have changed it to be more accurate and in doing so the scene would have been considerably more boring for the 99.99% of us who do not rock climb regularly.
Having not watched this show I am guessing to an extent the same applies. The "play again" button which obviously not a single online poker room has is basically a device to emphasize the addictive nature of the social issue they are discussing to their viewers, of which likely 99% or so do not play online poker on a regular basis.
I really feel for players in the states who are being affected by the new legislation. I don't know what I would do without online poker... The only casino in town doesn't even have a poker room and home games only come up every week or so. I really hope this kind of negative publicity doesn't stir up any more moral avengers determined to halt an activity which they know little to nothing about.
