Tips for my first Vegas trip :)

I'm making my first trip to Vegas in less than a month to celebrate my birthday [best fiancee ever] and I'm looking for some tips/help/advise on how to get the most out of my stay. Before any of you ask, no, We're not going to get married while there, that's in Oct. :)

Not so much poker wise, I have all kinds of info about that thanks to previous post on this forum, but I'm looking to find out more about other stuff, i.e.

1. What are the "must see" things while I'm there. My bankroll is a little on the small side [I'm just a working stiff after all] so I won't be gambling the whole time and would like to do some "touristy things" as well.

2. Decent/reasonable Restaurants that are worth checking out. I'm not real picky [I'll try any food once] my fiancee, unfortunately, is a bit more on the finicky side so places that'll have a good variety would be best.

3. Anything other advise/tips to make our first trip to Vegas a memorable one and/or save us some money, any advise any of you can offer would be awesome

4. And if you want or if you have nothing to add to my previous questions, what are the best poker rooms/casinos to visit?, I'm looking at a per tournament investment of around $100 so what's the best bang for my buck? like I said I have a lot of the websites and previous posts from here but any/all tips are welcome

Thanks

  • read my trip report and attempt to top the first day.
  • Aside from Gambling or drinking, did you or anyone else do anything fun while there?
  • 1. white tigers at mirage, volcano at treasure island, fountains / bobbys room at bellagio. if your a sports fan, go place a bet and watch the NBA / NHL playoffs in the Caesars palace sportsbook...i was there during the Homerun Derby...great atmosphere.

    2. The Rio Seafood buffet is pretty awesome... $35 all you can eat lobster tails, tiger prawns, crab legs, sashimi...best buffet in town.

    3. Just because you can see it, doesnt mean you can walk to it...everything is so much farther with the heat and humidity and the crowds.

Take advantage of the shuttles from your hotel, save you some cab fare and walking.

    4. i think the lower traffic poker rooms offer better tournaments for your casual small stakes player. try The Orleans, Caesars, Ballys
  • Rent a car at dollar for like $20/day.
  • Thanks guys, that helps a lot
  • 2 shots of ass juice and a bacon martini at the Double Down Saloon.
    trust me on this one.
  • dont listen to these cowards. You can walk the length of the strip it may take you a while but its more than possible

It's true... feel free to walk the length of the strip if you have an hour to spare ;) Literally... I did it in February this year a couple times (Wynn to Luxor).

  • The Aladdin has a pretty good low buy in tourney - I won the one in the morning :) fun stuff.

There is an awesome sushi buffet restaurant in the Desert Pathway by the Aladdin as well - there's an indoor rainstorm too along the way and good shopping for the missus ^_^
  • Thanks everyone...some great tips and links...got lots of reading to do.

    We're going on May 10th Can't wait...17 more sleeps

mmmmm....yes the sushi restaurant in the Aladdin shopping mall. It's called Todai and if you look in the free tourist magazines you may find a $5 off coupon. Awesome place.

Instead of going for dinner, show up with about 1/2 hour left in the lunch service. Lunch price + dinner food.
  • My wife and I really enjoyed the Blue Man Group. We also saw La Reve at the Wynn which is like cirque du soleil in an aqua theatre. It was pretty cool.

The best meal we had was at Olives (Bellagio). It was expensive but I like to eat well so I didn't mind.

We walked quite a bit during the daytime. I wore Sandals and after 2hrs of walking my feet were killing me. The best purchase I made in Vegas was a pair of walking/running shoes.

My days went pretty much this way.

    Eat Breakfast
    Shop
    Eat Lunch
Wife takes a nap...I go play poker.
Eat Dinner, See Show, Get Wife Drunk/Drop her off at room....go play poker til 5 am.

It was like groundhog day. I loved it.
