Where does a girl say 'hi'?
Hey everyone,
Usually, there's a place for introductions, but I don't see a specifc forum for that here...
Anyhow, thought I'd just say hi to all my fellow Canucks and say that it's great to see an all-Canadian poker forum. Where does everyone play? I'm on PokerRoom.com - an oldie but definitely a goodie. My b-friend is a Full Tilt kind of guy, but I don't hold that against him.
Anyway, see you all around and good luck at the tables. May the be
(wo)man win.

Welcome to the forum snowflake. Hope you enjoy yourself here. As an early warning, take most of what you read with a grain of salt while you get to know everyone here

Can't a guy catch a break? I can't help it, I'm drawn to snowflakes.
Post a pic please...
Snowflake
Now that my pic is up, I feel more like a part of the forum. Thanks for the hellos from everyone. I'm from Toronto - please spare me the T.O. jokes - beanie, captai, g2, bbc z and moose - what about you guys?
Where do you guys play? (As you can tell, for some reason I think you're all guys - am I wrong?)

What are you wearing?
Wanna play?
Dude! take a shower!
<I can relate, but still!>

Wasn't there some rule invoked where you have to hit 25 posts before you can hit on other board members? LOL j/k.
Welcome a-board Snowflake.

That would explain Aloooooooooot. :P
Stay tuned in the home games section. We (I) am still hoping to have a ladies open tourney, where my wife hosts and the boys go to Brantford to donk it up.
Brampton represent.
STR82ACE runs the Chinguacousy Hill Poker League which is in Brampton.
Several people from Toronto are members of the league so you are more then welcome to come out.
That would be me...the good looking one in the league Welcome to the forum. And if you're interested in coming out to one our games, by all means, do so. We have a couple of folks that drive up from the Lakeshore area, so don't feel like it's too far out of the way.
Thanks for responding to this thread. Nice to meet new friends from near and far and the invite to play at a live tournament.
As I'm a novice, I hope you'll appreciate the need to improve my game before I muster up enough courage to play in a person-to-person game.
Speaking of improving my game, here's my shameful admission to the forum:
I'm a new player, interested in poker but also a bit lazy when it comes to reading up on the subjects, so I have taken to watching it on tv to help me to understand poker better.
realize I'm taking a sloth-approach to learning poker, but it's because I know my shortcomings when it comes to math and at times, remebering cards played. That said, does anyone have any other suggestions to learn the game and become a better player?
Play alot of hands, by doing so you will gain experience. Kind of like trial and error method in a way.
My suggestions:
1. Read some books.
I suggest these books to start with in this order to give you an overview of No Limit and Limit Holdem.
Getting Started in Holdem
Small Stakes Holdem
Middle Limit Holdem
Theory of Poker
Holdem Poker For Advanced Players
Play of the Hands
Harrington On Holdem (all of them)
Little Green Book
No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice
No-Limit Texas Holdem
Ace on the River
Gambling Theory and Other Topics
Mathematics of Poker
2. Get some poker buddies to talk about hands with. Play hands and post hands on forums/discuss them with better players.
3. Get Poker Tracker and quantify your results... examine your play...
4. Play around with Poker Stove and Sit and Go Power tools.
5. Keep asking questions
Although you aren't comfortable with it yet, I urge you to play a live game or two soon. The experience you gain in a LIVE game is in-measurable compared to anything else. Yes, books will give you basics, and online will provide some experience in what to play, but a live game is ten fold better, AND its alot more fun too. Playing with living breathing people makes it a social affair as well as the most practical way to improve your game.
As far as watching tv shows...be careful. The nature of editing only shows you what the producers of the show think is entertaining. It is not the best way to learn this game. Poker is a patience game, and you'll not play the way they do on tv most of the time.
Still room open in the league if you're interested. I'm sure the other ladies will help make you feel right at home...the guys though will steal your blinds!!
