the fate of poker in Canada

Please forgive me if this item has already been discussed here. Am just bumbling my way through the forum.

As of April 9th, I think, Neteller will stop servicing Canadian customers with regard to poker site deposits. What are most people substituting.... or would that question attract unwelcome promotions?

Next, what do you think about the future of poker in Canada. Is it really legal. I read somewhere that any gambling activities that are not regulated by the Canadian government are illegal and that Kahnawake's actions are underdispute.

I have a self-serving reason for asking this because if I am breaking the law by gambling online as a Canadian then I don't have a leg to stand on with regards to my predicament.

What say you?

  • What say I? "GOD FU--ING DAMNIT!"

I don't get it... I thought it was legal here wtf? Is this cause of Americans pretending to live in Canada?
This sucks, yesterday I was gonna make a paypal acount to withdraw from a site but got lazy and went out drinking. FFS!!!! hmm crappety crap.
I strongly believe in breaking unjust laws, so I have no problem playing online poker if it's illegal, i'll try to find another way to withdraw from the site...
  • The Canadian government has shown no interest in regulating or prohibiting online poker. Neteller pulling out of Canada seems to be a direct result of the US government applying pressure to all companies who are poker related.

Many of the online poker sites are hosted on Indian reserves on Canadian soil. For example there is small online site some of you may have heard of http://www.pokerstars.com/kahnawake/

There has been a ton of concern about this development with Neteller but I for one am not too worried. There is definitely a market out there for e-wallets and if there is a market you can be guaranteed that someone will come to the party.
  • From the rumours I have heard at poker tables the reason Neteller decided to stop funding in Canada of gambling sites, has to do with Americans making Canadian Bank Accounts. Apparently Neteller had a lot of problem with money laundering using online poker sites. When they cut off funding to Americans the quilty parties opened accounts in Canada.

Not sure if this rumour has any merit but I do know that money laundering was a big problem in online casinos.

    Hope this helps
  • Money laundering is a big problem that is not just related to on line gambling sites. The money laundering issue is just a smoke screen. Neteller is regulated by the rules in the UK since it's a listed stock. The FSA has money laundering policies in play that neteller adhere's too. It's just more BS
