Neteller shutting down canadians?

Starting April 9th, Neteller isnt going to allow Canadians to transfer money to online gambling sites. I only know how to use neteller, dont have a credit card.... is there anything i can do to get money online to pokerstars? I also want to know if it is possible to transfer money onto pokerstars (before april 9th), and when i want to withdraw (after april 9th) is it still possible to do so through neteller? PLZ help!!

  • On April 9th we can all close our neteller accounts.
They will be useless unless you want to launder money using peer to peer transfers or purchase things from the feeble list of merchants who are not affilliated with gambling.

After April 9th cashing out via check from each poker site is going to be the norm. Depositing will likely never be as simple.

Echecks is the method I am looking to find out more about and use.

Any serious help would be appreciated.
  • Damn bad news - I like people to be able to deposit quickly directly from their bank accounts...

The fewer obstacles the better, now no americans and fewer tilt rebuys :(

now this is what all the real poker players are concerned about... no easy way to deposit, less donators...... less funds that Rocks are able to collect to draw out to fund our pension shortfalls.... boooooo...
  • Recent actions by regulators, payment processors, and online gaming operators have increased the uncertainty around certain activities related to online gambling in some jurisdictions. The Board of Directors of the Company reached a decision, on 25 March 2007, that the risk to the Group’s ongoing business in Canada and Turkey has increased in the light of such developments.

The above, quoted from Neteller's announcement, is what concerns me. I've checked the gc.ca Web site, I've checked the Criminal Code - I can't find anything that would indicate why Neteller thinks doing business with Canadians would be risky.
Does anyone have any ideas about where this is coming from? I've never heard Harper say anything on the topic.
  • I am almost certain this action is stemming from the American Government. Too many US citizens are obviously getting around the rules using Canadian Bank accounts and Address's. Similar to how some Canadians are getting around DirectTV with US address's. It would take a lot to convince me otherwise.
  • hmmmm....would it be possible toset up an account with information saying you're from ... i dono France and still use neteller?
  • I'm going to check out Instadebit, I believe you can use it like Neteller by having the account in US dollars linked to your bank in CDN dollars. From what I read if the merchant uses US dollars then your Instadebit account will be in US dollars as well, same if in CDN dollars, no fees for transactions but they ding you on exchange when you transfer to your bank account....which I'm ok with, Neteller did the same. Only thing is not sure which sites use it, I do believe Stars takes Instadebit but I've told Lee Jones he can blow me too many times to play there anymore.
  • I thinik i tried instadebit before... do you got to provide your SIN number? if so...im not doing it lol

  • Just further to this - I've been doing a little scrambling, trying to figure out what to do, and so far I've not found anything easy to replace...all I've managed to do it find out who's NOT doing it. The following companies will NOT support Canadian online gaming:

    FirePay
    Citadel
    Ewallet Express

Those are just the few that I have recieved actual confirmation from. Funny enough, the CSR from Citadel told me they were good to go, definitely sign up for their service and send money - they're only going to stop in April...thanks a bunch!!

So much for that - gonna make it tougher to be a bonus whore now, that's for sure... :(

EChecks is all i use, no fees and incredibly quick. No hassles, I'd never use anything but.

    stp
  • As an aside to all this, BetCris today has stopped using neteller for any transactions. It's not a deposit or withdrawl option. BetCris is one of the largest off shore books with a mostly european following.

STP: can you withdrawl with echecks and what are the limits? Some of my friends need to move large amounts of money between sites (10K plus). Moneybookers is starting to look better.
  • I'm unsure about the max for withdrawal, most for me was about $500. Here are the deposit options though.

  • That's fine for pstars, but not all sites support echecks. Any other ideas out there? It'd be nice to find one online funding site that works in most places. Damn Neteller...there were so good too.
  • echecks are declined for me?? Same with my 2 visas...Not cool...
  • My e check was declined as well. I tried to fund my new moneybookers account with my mastercard and it was declined. Now back to verifying my bank account.
