When you guys sign up to new poker sites...

Hello there,

I have a question for everyone. I was reading some of the posts, and something popped into my head.

When you guys sign up to new poker sites that you have heard of, how do you do it?

1 - Do you hear from someone - "Sign up to xyzpoker... It is GREAT!", then go to www.xyzpoker.com and sign up?

or

2 - Do you hear from someone - "Sign up to xyzpoker... It is GREAT!", then go to a search engine and type xyz poker bonus or something like that, then sign up through an affiliate?

The reason I ask, is that I have always gone to affiliate sites to sign up for any poker site I wanted to play at. I am now an affiliate for several sites, and I am wondering why other people don't seem to do the same.
My reasoning is - Why let the HUGE, billion dollar revenue generating site have ALL of my money when an affiliate will make a little as well if I sign up there.

  • Mostly, for me, it depends on the bonus that's being offered. Pay me to play, and I'll consider playing on the site. I could care less if they make a buck or two because they're an affiliate or not.

I would suggest that people sign up with an affiliate that provides some net value to the player, otherwise your question can be turned on it's head by asking why should a person give an affiliate a cut of anything if that affiliate does not provide any value to the player?

The whole "don't give the big evil rich poker room" in and by itself is of no value. Providing extra bonuses (on top of the standard ones anyone would get), rakeback, gifts, freerolls etc as per player needs is how an affiliate can provide value to a player which is what matters.

That is why the large successful affiliates keep growing while the spam based ones who provide nothing more then a link (coupled with other brand new posters (ie: second posting accounts) saying how great they are, or ones based on screwing "rich poker sites" are dime a dozen and only get people once in a while generally by accident (ie: they clicked a link and it saved the cookies without knowing).

  • I'm one cheap SOB when it comes to the internet so I go with the ones with the best potential payouts (either money or qualifying feeders for other tourneys) for freerolls with the fewest players.
  • This isn't a thread, it's spam.
  • Um... why would a genuine question be spam? LOL
Just because someone owns a website, does not mean that the only thing they do is spam people.

    Get real buddy.

  • LOL... www.xyzpoker.com is actually a site... check it out!

This thread is spam if-f the OP is, or is working for, Mr. Holland.

  • Actually, it isnt a site. It is one of those mass buys that companies buy that redirect visitors or advertise other websites.

  • Well, I think everyone here knows that your initial post is a variation of spam even if you do not think it was. If you truly wanted it to not be considered spam then why include links to your affiliate site in your signature?

By the way, having visited your site , it looks fairly standard with the information there being a collection of information found at various sites.

You do say "and we have quite alot of promotional websites listed here for you to get the most bang for your buck. "

Out of curiosity what do you actually think you provide the player that constitutes "bang for the buck." You do not offer any extra incentive, as all the bonuses you offer are the ones that anyone can get downloading the software directly from the poker site. You do not offer rakeback. You do not offer gifts. Your forums have basically no members or discussions.

Note, I am not saying this makes you a bad or evil person. The site itself is fine in that it is relatively clean straight forward and has a collection of information. However, why would/should anyone sign up through you? Give a single advantage to it from signing up with a rakeback site or a site like PSO.

I do agree with you... I just started the site, and the only reason that I put my site and forum on the postings is to gain better visibility on the search engines... otherwise, my signature would only be "My 2 cents!"
I am counting on making enough money on this site to begin to offer things like rakeback and free money like PSO, but that will come with time... The site is just a few months old, and the forum is actually just a few weeks old. The forum was put there to have players post important things, and have more people recognize the site. It hasnt been too great yet, but hopefully it will be soon enough.

Oh... and there is one site that I do have which I offer a rakeback through...
