Online Poker Age restriction

I find it stupid how I'm allowed to go to a casino to play poker but I'm not allowed to sign up for a 'real money' account online. I think if you're a Canadian citizen you should be legally allowed to play online poker at 19. What do you guys think about this?

  • Considering most of the funds are USD, I think it's fine the way it is.

Don't be in a hurry to go broke. Online will be here for a very long time, unless you're Pkrfce9 and still think the internet is a fad ;)
  • Grow up...

    HAHA.. just kidding

  • I'm not sure what you're talking about because legal age on almost every online poker site is 18.
  • Yes the legal age to play for "play money" is 18/19, but to play with real money you need to be 21, yet I can go to the casino and play with 'real money' at my current age (19) and yes, I have a credit card, but I can't play online with it...?

I'd like to play from the comfort of my own home as opposed to wasting my trucks gas going back and forth from the casino on a weekly basis. I just think it's ridiculous. I can own a gun, I can buy weapons, I can go to war, but I can't play a game on the internet.

I'm sorry if my first post on these forums came off as whiney but I was searching google for an answer to this question, and saw this website so I decided, 'Why not ask it here?'

    Nice to meet you all
  • And it's the perfect place to ask it as well. However, you may as well ask the same thing about age of majority...you can drive at 16, you can hunt at 14, you can own a gun at 18, but you can't drink until your 19, which in this province is the age the government deems you responsible enough for your own actions.

Don't be in a hurry to grow up. You're at a great age, live your life. Gambling will be there waiting for you when you're ready.

    The Old Fart
  • Aren't most of the sites 18 to play real money. I just checked FCP, Party Poker and Pokerstars. They all say the same thing 18+ or whatever is applicable in your juristiction.

    Age verification

    What we do
    • Every person signing up for a new account at PokerStars must check a box that indicates that they are at least 18 years of age. This notifies everybody that we don’t accept players under 18.
    • When a player creates an account with PokerStars, we collect their name, address, and birth date to confirm that the player is at least 18 years old.
    • PokerStars does not target underage players with our marketing and advertising. It is neither good business nor consistent with our personal and corporate values to attract underage players.
    What you can do
    • Be sure to protect your computer. All Windows computers can be set up to have password control so that you must enter a password to get to the desktop. In general, this is a good practice, but it’s even more important when there are children or teenagers in your household. Also, keep your PokerStars screen name and password private. You can elect to have the PokerStars software not remember your password each time you log into PokerStars. If you have any concern that somebody else might attempt to access your PokerStars account, you should not allow the PokerStars software to remember your password.
    • If you have children or teenagers in your household, use protection software that allows you to limit the websites to which they have access, prevent file sharing, and generally give you detailed control over how your children use the Internet. Here is a list of some of those programs:

      SafeKids
      NetNanny
    • If you are aware of an underage person using PokerStars software, let us know. Simply send an email to support@pokerstars.com and we will get right on it. Our first step is to investigate, and if warranted, freeze the player’s account and request identification from that player; we take these reports seriously.
    • Be a responsible parent. In many ways, this is nothing more than keeping your eyes and ears open. If you hear your children talking about poker accounts, deposits, and withdrawals, start asking questions. If you see the PokerStars client on your child's computer, uninstall it and ask more questions. A responsible parent is the best start to preventing underage gaming.
