Fallsview Casino Low Limit - Opinions?

Hi, All...

First time posting...nice to see a Canadian poker site, just stumbled upon it today.

Reason I'm posting is I'm going to venture out from the online poker world to try my luck at the casino, but I'm a little on the cautious side. I'm planning on going to Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls to play some low limit hold 'em...

What I'm wondering is if any of you have played there, and what your thoughts were... I'm a pretty regular player online, but not having played at a casino before, I want to avoid looking like a fish, and was just wondering about the overall calibre of players you've run into at Fallsview.

Any input would be hugely appreciated...thanks!! :)

  • Sucks.

The casino sucks and the players suck. Play for a couple hours there. If you are a decent player you should be killing the game. The tables are full of weak tighties and loose passives that are too afraid to play the $1/2 nl tables. Then go across the ditch to Seneca and play at a real poker room.

If you want to avoid looking like a fish:

Buyin for $80 white from the cage when your name is called - unless the pit boss asks you to buyin from the table.

Wait for the BB to hit you and then post.

Roll your cards up at showdown. Trust me, no one cares what you are playing, so no need to hide your cards until the dealer asks you to show.

Tip the dealer everytime you rake a pot.

Don't wear sunglasses - it's low limit poker for cryin' out loud. I laugh at those dudes who go and dress like it is the WSOP or something.

Don't act out of turn or indicate that you are folding in any way until it is your turn - this is one of the hardest things to get used to online vs live because online it is impossible to act out of turn.

Announce all your actions verbally before doing anything. "Fold, Bet - if you are the first to enter the pot, Call, or Raise". Please don't say raise if no-one has bet yet - you sound stupid.

Announcing Raise first is important, because then you have all the time in the world to get your chips right. If you put chips in and then go back to your stack for more chips, without announcing Raise - this is an illegal string bet and will be disallowed.

Don't discuss hands while the cards are live - when the hand is over you can talk all you want about the previous hand.

Have fun. Laugh and joke with the players and dealer. It is entertainment. You are not going to get rich or go broke at $2/4 limit.
  • Btw I just noticed you said Fallsview. My comments were about Niagara.

I doubt you will find low limit at Fallsview and in any event you will run into huge wait lists. You are better off to go to Niagara for $2/4 limit. (The bridge to Seneca is about 30 sec drive from Niagara - and that is where you really want to play anyways.)
  • The NL games at fallsview are low buyins anyways. Might as well just do that.
  • Play 1/2 NL instead of 2/4 limit. Same action, less rake.
  • From what Ive seen in my many hours at Niagara and lesser hours at Fallsview, it would be better to try NL there. As a previous poster stated, if you want to stick to limit I would HIGHLY recommend going across the border to Seneca simply because the number of tables available for limit play in the two niagara casinos is sparse. On a good day, there is two 2/4L tables at Niagara. I have not seen a limit table spread at Fallsview in quite a while, but that may also be because I play there less.

As for the calibre of players (in my opinion)
    - 1/2NL at Niagara - a few good ones mixed in with a lot of action junkies and OSAP bleeders
    - 5/5NL at Fallsview - better calibre of players but also a good percentage of people with a lot of money to spend for a good time

Also as stated earlier, don't try to look like your on TV and also don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand what is happening/what is being asked of you.

Good luck and take down every pot you can.
  • what does someone usually buy in with at a 1/2NL table and a 5/5NL table?
  • Max $100 on 1/2NL, max $500 on 5/5NL
  • Thanks for the input guys...definitely food for thought. Due to the new BS with having to have a passport to cross the border, I hadn't even given any thought to going to Seneca...not this trip, maybe the next. But, I will give some thought to going to Niagara vs. Fallsview, since it seems they have slightly better limit options there. Guess the best thing to do would be check out both...

    Thanks for the opinions!! :)
  • Dude to drive across you don't need a passport - not yet. Only if you plan to take a helicopter ride over the falls and pay the dude extra to drop you off on the other side. ;)
