Vancouver, B.C. Players?

I've noticed that the majority of the players on this board seem to be from Ontario. I live on Vancouver Island and I just turned 19 3 months ago.

I'm looking to head over to the River Rock Casino in the coming weeks to play my first casino tournaments. I'm looking for some info from someone from Vancouver if there is anybody on this board.

I'm a Casino Newbie (well I've never been so I guess I'm not even worthy of being a Newbie yet, so excuse my questions if they are ignorant). What is the lowest limit offered in the ring games? I've been to the River Rock website and seen the tournament schedule. I'm wondering what the average attendance is for the EBT's (early bird tournaments) each day of the week? The $100 wednesday tourney? Also how buch bigger do the tourneys get on the weekends?

Any info would be greatly appreciated from you Vancouver players, if you do exist on this board. As of right now I'm stuck playing 1 home game a week and staring at my computer screen for hours every day. I need to play some B&M poker and get out of this routine.

  • The River Rock is a great place to play -- I've enjoyed all my sessions there.

They offer both limit and no-limit (and I've seen interest lists for other games, although I haven't seen a live table). The NL games start at $1/$2 and the limit games start at $2/$4. I don't go that often, but when I've been there I've seen limits as high as $5/$10 NL and $50/$100 Limit.

The EBT's are almost always full. I think they spread 5 tables of ten. They're a bit of a joke though... the structure is very fast (the tournaments are all over in about 3 hours) and the starting chips are very low in relation to the blind schedule. If you haven't made your move in the first hour... buh-bye. By all means, if you're there try one out, but don't be planning your trip around the EBT's.

The weekend tournaments are great, from what I've heard. I haven't played in one, but I believe the Saturday events usually fill all 25 tables and have a great schedule. I imagine the Wednesday night event is much of the same. Check these out.

The dealers I've seen have been, the room is nice, clean and separated from the rest of the casino floor. The bad beat jackpot when I was at home at Christmas was $119,000 and counting, so be sure to sit for a few hours to try your luck.
  • I'm in Vancouver as well, the EBT's are fun, but as has been noted, they are fast. If you haven't built a stack to protect by the break, you are pretty much hoping to luck out. Blinds start at 25 25, and are up to 100/200 by level 4. Go to break, and come back at 200/400, things get ugly quick.

The limit games, run from 2/4 to the popular 4/8, and up. 4/8 is a pretty good game, which plays a little tighter than the 2/4 but not much. You can really earn in this game, if the cards fall well. I don't play the no limit much so I can't speak to it.

There are many othe casino's in town, and they all offer tournaments of some variety, so check around. The Broadway Casino has 4 tourney's daily, at 11, 3, 7, and 11. Buy in for the 11 is 20+5, all others are 30+5 and use the same quick structure. Feel free to PM me when you are coming over and I'll try and hit one up with you. It would be nice to meet some other forum members.
