Hi, remember me?
Well, here I am again, alive and kicking. I had to take hiatus for a number of reasons, one of which being ‘revenge’ and the other my sanity.
For those of you who don’t already know, I was fired from my job after more than 6 years with a great company who will remain nameless (please don’t mention it in this thread, I have my reasons) the timing was terrible as I just bought a home 5 months ago and it’s not an ideal time to lose a 50k+/year job.
Pokerforum (me) is largely at fault for being fired. If someone emailed admin@pokerforum.ca, I had a rule setup so that a copy would go to a me@work.com email address so that I would be aware of it, I wouldn’t reply from my work address though, I would log in and answer from pokerforum email.
Well, I took a vacation day in January, and I set an out of office auto reply saying “you’ve reached Neil, if your request is urgent, please contact distribution-list@work.com “
Well, someone emailed pokerforum asking about something. When they got the work auto reply, they determined that their request was urgent (and didn’t put 2 and 2 together realizing the auto reply came from a different domain than the one they contacted) and they proceeded to email the distribution list which goes to about 40 people from work including managers asking about ad rates with pokerforum.ca
This was viewed as a triple whammy. I was mis-using company resources for forwarding personal mail to work, I was doing non work related stuff during work hours, and I had compromised the image of the company by affiliating it with a poker site and was dismissed.
I can of spiraled for a few days and have held some resentment toward the whole thing, but I only have myself to blame…it just so happens that pokerforum.ca is part of me, and I can’t be mad at one without the other.
So, I am working again, and with the new job took training and I’m also in night school two nights a week getting certified in Human resources. I just needed a break to rid myself of bitterness and resentment I was holding toward this place….it was easy to blame the site rather than myself.
Wes, I can’t thank you enough for keeping everything together around here. Thanks to everyone for their patience. I’m back now….again. Should be able to login and deal with stuff at least 30 minutes/day now still.

Wes did a great job in your absence.
Sorry to hear about your job, that really sucks.
Good luck with the new job and school.
We all have lives outside of this place (sort of) . I am sure everyone will understand how hard the last few months must have been on you.
Thanks for the site, thanks for being honest with all of us, most of whom you don't know personally and again, goodluck!
I've seen you in person a fair bit in the interim since you've been gone, but it's good to have you back here too.
Sean.
Welcome back Neil...glad to hear you've found a new place to settle....
Yea I think I've heard this before, next thing well know hell be sending us a royal check for 100k and all we need to do is send 20k to nigeria through western union.
Let me tell you this, I'm not falling for that a 3rd time!
"Welcome back, now get our free crap organized" ?
Really?
That's unreal...
That same day, my current job was posted in the paper, I applied and got it. Too late to save my house. Paid all kinds of legal fees, but backed out of the deal on closing day. That was a hard two days.
Things happen for a reason.
Or even better, fwd it to GuyYouHate@work.com and get him fired.
Don't say that, I just bought a new house!
HuH? I was let go from my engineering job way back in 98 and the same day a want ad for my teaching position at Conestoga was posted in the paper. I've been there over 8 years now. It was a significant pay cut, but it is a great job.
/g2
Thats fucking unreal...
Hope everything works out holmes.
