Vegas!

Just thought I'd drop in and say hello from beautiful Las Vegas. Arrived at 1pm las vegas time on Monday the 26th.

Up till now I have played in 3 tourneys, the first was @ Caesars, the 11pm $70 buy-in, it was a solid game, placed 42/150 or so, didn't catch any cards, and I was distracted all night by the pussycat dolls, who's change room was right beside my table. Yesterday, I played in a 1 pm $60 tourney @ Alladin, got 4th/30 people, a girl from Calgary took it down, it was her first tourney ever other than a home game. won $120.

Then I went to Bellagio and took care of my bet with my home game, earlier than expected. I had bet all my buddies $10, and 10 of them all put up $10, that I could get a picture with Gavin Smith. As soon as I walk into the poker room, Gavin is playing 10/20 and I railbirded him for a bit, waiting for my spot, and in betwen hands introed myself, and told him, I liked his work on the cuircit and that I was from Stratford. He knew right away, and was very nice. After waiting till the right time, I told him of my bet, and he was more than happy to help me win! Also at that time, Juanda, Matusow and Grey were playing 7stud in the high stakes room, so I watched them for a bit.

Headed over to Sahara for a 7pm $42+20 rebuy tourny for 5000 chips total, and got 56/161. it was a really crazy tourney, with 3-4 people all in pretty much every hand, so it was tough unless you were picking up hands, which I was not.

Went back to Bellagio for 10 pm and had a much needed nice dinner at Fix...Champagne, Oysters, Sauve Blanc and Spicy raw Tuna with Ponzu sauce. Staff was excellent, decided to skip the Caesars tourney and decided to get drunk and play 1/2 nl at Ballys, as I had heard it was a soft game, and that didn't dissapoint!

Started at around 1am, and got back this morning at 11am. Started off playing tight and watching & getting to know my table, was down about $50 after 3 hours or so, and then went on an amazing run of smack talking, limping and raising that ran me up about $900. met some great folks from all over, had a blast and drank about 15 budwiesers and 4 redbulls, so I don't feel all that great at the moment. The 11 am stumble back to the condo wasn't so nice ;) I was going to play heads up with an old guy from texas, he had a mountain of chips from bluffing, and none of the other guys, except one dude from NY, who made like 4 amazing calls with J high, were calling him. I should have made one all in call w 99, on a Q J K 2 5 board, but didn't...thats when the fun started around 6 am. I played about %50 of the hands and was pretty much limping and betting $10-12 ON THE FLOP, AND WHENEVER i HAD A GOOD HAND SOMEONE ELSE WOULD RAISE TO $30, AND GET A CALLER OR TWO. I'd call and bet the river and either showed the best hand, or didn't get called. anyway, the rest of the table was going to stake me, to play against him, he wnted to play for 5g's heads up, but I was trying to goad him into playing at our table for longer. It was getting close to a bad situation, so I laid off teasing him. Luckily, I'm a nice guy, and the dealers and floor guys had my total respect, and the rest of the table hated him as well, so I was golden.

dam, just thinking about it...from the pots I won(which were many) I was tipping the dealers a lot...what do you guys normally do for tips? if I got called and won a decent pot I would shoot 3-5 bucks to the dealer...must have added up to around 50, but not too sure, due to the 15 buds.

Ok, enough rambling, need some bacon and coffee. I'll report back later this week. oh, meet up with Devin/all_aces right away, at the Wynn on Tuesday, he was doing ok in the 1k nl event, but busted out in like 50th or so? I think he said he was up 3-4k in the 30/60 game at bellagio later that night, but not so good last night when I saw him around 10pm at bellagio. going to see if he;s still in the 1k nl today, but havent heard from him, so I think he might be either really good, or busted.

  • Just got back from Caesars...watched the whole day of the NBC heads up.
made friends with the two ladies who were running the show, and snagged a great seat throughout the day. I should be on tv a few times anyway. Got to talk to Jeff Madsen, Vanessa Rousso, Phil Laak, Chip Reese, Paul Wasika, Gus Hansen, Ted Forrest, Annie Duke, Allen Cunningham, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Daniel Negreanu, The Ginder, John Juanda, Gavin Smith, Johnny Chan, Jennifer Tilly, Shannon Elizabeth, Clonie Gowen, Phil Gordon, Scott Nguyen, Isabelle Mercier, Don Cheadle, Jesus, John D'Agostino and Chad Brown, who were all sweating out their buddies as they finished up the matches and seated in front or beside me. Sat with Yukon Brad for quite a while, and sweated him vs Lederer, he is a really decent guy. Also sat with Mama Grinder for the most part of the day, she has some really massive titties. I was sitting right behind the dealer in TJ and Cindy V's game, and the man they call Texas Dolly came to sweat that match, right in front of me. Also had a smoke with Scott Fischman, he was also very nice, I sat with his family for his quick dismantling of Jesus. Don Cheadle beat Phil Ivey in what was about the longest match of the day. There were a lot of massive suck outs...a lot! Also had some friendly teasing with Annie Duke, as she was sweating her Brother vs Yukon Brad. I think his girlfriend and I were the only ones cheering for him, and we were calling out for his cards...Annie didn't like that too much, good times. Sorry for all the name dropping, but it was pretty easy to talk to people, as the pros who were done and friends made up over half the crowd of 100 people.

Canadians who won...Gavin, Isabelle & Yukon Brad. Negreanu and Jennifer Tilly lost.
  • That sounds friggin awesome man. I wish I coulda been there...
  • Well, last day here in Vegas...Gavin was the only Canuck to make it to the final 8 He and Phil gordon got it all in, within 10 hands or so, raise & call preflop. Q:h: J:d: 8:h: flop, Gavin goes all in and Phil calls, looking like he thinks he's advancing. Gordon flips over :as :ah and Gavin shows 10:h: 4:h: I call for the heart, and sure enough the turn is the 5:h: and a blank on the river...see ya later Phil. He was not too impressed. anyways...a little too hungover for a full report, basically anyone who hasn't been here needs to get off there ass and come on down! I'm basically even after all was said and done, except meals and my $300/week condo I stayed at. Need coffee & bacon!
  • Nice report!
