Arg, bad beat groan.

I think I partially played it wrong, but oh man
I was playing the pokerstars $3+0. 2098 entered, so prize pool was over 6K.

We are down to the final 5 tables.
Payouts as follow:
Final Table - BIG MONEY for me :)
10-18 $50.36
19-27 $28.33
28-36 $22.03
37-45 $18.89

I had AKo near the button
I have 79K in chips (21st out of the remaining 45 ish)

Blinds 1.5K/3K
UTG raises to 12K, right calls, i call. Flop comes Ks 9s Kh. UTG bets 3k (meaning the person does not have K and is giving up hand). Right raises to 12K, I reraise to 30K (was thinking about raising all 67K, but didn't). Right person calls getting: about 4.75-1 on their money (I think I would have foled in his position, with a tonne of money). Turn is an 8, they go all in (100K) and I call (21K ish or something). They flip 88, and I am burned. Need K A or 9 but get nothing. Its all over, if I had won, I would have had 180K in chips and would have been in 2nd chip position and prime to win a couple hundreds, but tis it is not the day.

Here is the hand for hand of that play. Still steaming!! 1st was 1400, I would have loved to win that!!

  • You had the boss hand, pre and post flop. The cards just didn't fall for you after that though. Tough loss. Always classy to say gg/nh when you are beat though. Even when you are steaming. lol There are enough "Phil's" out there already. lol Your time will come though. You won't always fall to Mr. 2 outer. In the long run, that is.
  • Flop comes Ks 9s Kh. UTG bets 3k (meaning the person does not have K and is giving up hand). Right raises to 12K, I reraise to 30K (was thinking about raising all 67K, but didn't).

Why not push in on the flop? The pots about 50K (when it's your turn to act postflop), you've got 60K in chips which would atleast make the guys reconsider calling with an underpair.. Seems like a good enough size pot that I wouldnt mind just taking it down right there and then.

You didnt really give those guys any indication that you had a real hand. A call preflop followed by a min (re-re)raise probably gave aarog the gut feeling that you didnt have the goods.

Regardless.. The major theme (that I see constantly on the tables) of poor players is thier inability to toss away low pocket pairs when the flop comes overcards. He got lucky which is very sucky ;)
  • tough break ... but i think your impulse to push all the chips in would have been the right one on the flop, once it was raised back to you.

you have the set with top kicker, and at that moment your leading and beating ever pocket hand except KK or K9 ... push them in.
  • actually the only hand that could beat you on the flop is K9, i say all-in, you would have made it a really really tough decision for the guy and you were willing to push later anyways. pre flop i think your play was good, gotta be wary of a big pocket. always tough to lose when you're a 93% favourite! ( i looked it up ;) )
  • yeah, I checked it up too. in hinesight, I should have pushed it all in. The problem was, I was thinking either to SLOWPLAY it (call 12K) or go all in. But when I was deciding, I kept hearing all these beeps, so I was unsure and in the end, I raised only to 30K (was thinking about a 40K raise or all in). Oh well. I try again.
