I find these very interesting and I will be the first to admit I do not agree to all 40.

  • Most look pretty fair, except this:

34 Pot Size- Players are entitled to be informed of the pot size in pot-limit games only. Dealers will not count the pot in limit and no-limit games.

Is this a common rule? If so, could you explain why?

It's to keep the pace of the game. In pot limit you need to know what the pot is as a function of the betting. In NL games you don't want to be waiting for a count every time someone feels like it.
  • can someone explain this to me:

22 Dodging Blinds- A player who intentionally dodges (a) blind(s) when moving from a broken table will incur a penalty.

how do you miss a blind when moving from table to table?

    and this one:
39 String Raises- Dealers will be responsible for calling string raises.

so if a dealer misses it, no one can call it to the dealer's attention?

sometimes, depending on the open seat, a player will deliberatley delay getting to the new table so as to seat in a more advantageous position. QAuite common.

No, anyone can proclaim a string but it will be left to the judgement of the dealer as a floor supervisor will rarely witness the actual event. Remember, dealers control the game, supervisors are there to confirm the dealers' judgement.

Coincidentally, Robert's Rules version 8 just came out. It has a change which deals with this. The old wording used to put the onus on the players to basically complain about string betting, and then the dealer was to enforce it. The new wording makes it the dealers job to enforce this without having to be asked.

Rule below, new wording in bold.

    14. String raises are not allowed. The dealer should enforce obvious infractions to this string-raise law without being asked. To protect your right to raise, you should either declare your intention verbally or place the proper amount of chips into the pot. Putting a full bet plus a half-bet or more into the pot is considered to be the same as announcing a raise, and the raise must be completed. (This does not apply in the use of a single chip of greater value.)

Though I should add the rule from the no limit section to avoid confusion with regards to the last part of that rule...

(The half-the-size rule for reopening the betting is for limit poker only.)
