Keeping Records

I started off keeping my poker records on Microsoft Excel. I was only playing sit n go's with buddies 2 nights a week and was not yet online, so all i kept track of was the date, the number of players, the buy-in, my profit or loss for that game, and my overall profit or loss. Then about a year ago i found Cardplayer.com's poker analyst and started using that, it's so conveniant and i find it very organized. I'm sure a few people here are using it. What I'd like to know is if all you sharks out there use this program? Or do you keep your own records in your own style, if so what all do you keep track of? If you don't use Cardplayer's Poker Analyst, have you tried it and not liked it? If so why? I just want to be able to keep track of as much information as possible to better my game and increase my profits. One great feature I like on Poker Analyst is the ability to see how well you do in different types of games. For example about a month ago i looked up my stats for tournaments with 10+ people and found i was down $30, however when i lloked up my stats for tournaments with 9 or less, i found i was up about $90. So i recently started playing far more 9 player sit n go's and have found my profits increase quite a bit. As a poker player, how valuable do you think it is to keep records.

    Invaluable.

You don't know where you are going unless you know where you are and where you have been.
  • If you're serious about poker keeping records is a must. To keep track of cash game results I use poker journal on my Palm treo - then sync/transfer the information to my laptop where I use statking. Calculates all my stats (standard deviation, variance, hourly earn, confidence, etc..)

    Definitely a must if you're pro/semi-pro player.
  • I don't think keeping records is enough if you want to be a professional player or want to win more on the tables.
You still have to analyze your play and your opponents style in depth.
I use Zeus Shield 1.0 (free) to track my play and analyze my games.
  • I use a spreadsheet that I got off another discussion board. For the levels that I play at, it seems to be fine.
  • I like using PokerTracking.com. Now if only I can keep it up to date....
  • If you want a spreadsheet

On the right hand side theres my spreadsheet plus an instruction manual.
