Hand from West Side NL game

So after bowing out of the tourney way too early, I decide to play some 1-2NL.
Been playing for about 1hr very tight (just ask Cam..).
Villian is fairly new to the table and playing most hands preflop for cheap.

I get Jc9h in the BB and with no raises, I check. 5 players see the flop (pot is $10).

Flop 4s8sJh.

I bet out $10 and get 1 caller. I figure that he at best has a Jack and I may be outkicked here. Don't think he has a set cause from what I've seen of him, he would have raised.
Pot is now $30.

Turn is 9c.
I bet out $15 and he comes over the top putting me all in for my remaining $50.

What would you do?

  • given your short stack, call

couple other questions... what position was he in when he called? were there others behind him yet to act? if so, what type of players were they? those answers might give a clue about what he is holding.
  • He called from MP with 4 players including the blinds left to act.
The players left to act were solid players.
I know Elanor was there and Romer.
In the one rotation, I think the villian has played about 6 of the 10 hands.
  • I agree you only have $50 back you only have two options...

    1. Call and hope he has AJ.

    2. Fold take your $50 and cash out.
  • Easy call and highlights how shortstacked NL can make tough decisions very simple.

So true so true. Thats why sometimes short stack is a good thing to be. You make some calls that you otherwise wouldnt make and it pans out for you. Not that I wouldnt rather be big stack anyways.:)

well, then, if he is slowplaying a monster or calling a pot-sized bet with a gutshot, i'd say you have a good chance at getting your money back later anyway...

i would definitely call. he may have JT or JQ

    Ding...ding...ding

He called the pot bet with a gutshot and hit his 3-outer.
I had put him on pretty much Jx and pushed over the top.

    C'est la vie.
  • Hey Hobbes,

was it the guy on Cam's left? the older fellow who was pretty aggresive and playing most of his hands?
  • No it was the polish (at least I think he was) guy across from Cam with the Ferrari jacket on.

please point him out to me at the next westside, although based on your description, i'm sure i can spot him.

tough break but nothing you can do about that one.
  • That would be Peter, calls more than me. If thats possible...
  • I can't recall the ferrari jacket but my friend in the green hat says there was a guy sitting beside him to his right wearing a ferrari jacket. At that point I had too many polski brews..ha! Did he have a son who raked in more than 700 bones on the other table?

  • That's the guy tilt
  • I remember now, he's got a mustache and a strong accent...he was at my table at the beginning of the tourney....super aggressive and got alot of gamble in him...nice guy though.
