Poker Pro or Donk?

Just looking through some videos on Youtube.

This is a video of a guy playing a $300 SNG - claiming to be a poker pro -Am I missing something in poker?

Personally, I would love to play against this guy.

What do you think?

  • i did not see him act out of turn once or show his cards while the hand was in play so i can't call him a total donk...

his commentary was pretty basic but i wouldn't say it was necessarily incorrect. i'd say he overvalues any queen, though.

he pushed a lot of crap. no biggie. i'm not sure i saw him call much with crap? pro? i'm sure he is. any good? i dunno.
  • Honestly, I don't find anything he was saying *THAT* out of line.... but I'd be very curious to hear what some of the other tourney-guru's say

And Tom, you probably would HATE to play this guy the amount he was hitting.. I know I would

    Mark
  • I hate the fact that he calls it "All-ining" instead of 'pushing'..
  • just one question.
    at final table.
when does Q or K high gain value? to be good to push for stealing?
is it bubble time? or just headup?
  • I would agree that it was a bit hard to tell what was going on because you couldnt see the other players chip values.

    But my thoughts were,

    First hand,

    1. He should have been out. He pushed back in at the SB making a raise. He said he had "some fold equity." Considering the stacks - I dont think it could have been much with 4 players, the blind level, and the amount of the SB raise.

The SB shows AJ and he said he had no way of knowing the other player had a better Ace. A7 for me is one of those hands just below where I figure my Ace may be better. He mentioned that the other player could have A6 or A5 or A4 - well there is a much greater chance that the player has A8 and up - plus against A2-A6 there are so many split opportunities. Again this hand depends on his fold equity. But I am never surprised, when the SB who could have seen the flop for cheap, makes a big raise and has a decent hand.

I think the rest of his "video" was really thrown off for me here because of how he played this hand. I dont mind pushing with A7 at this point in a SNG - but I want to be the one to open the pot here - not re-raising someone who has shown strength and is likely to call.

    2. He mentioned numerous times how he had no idea how the BB was playing. What was he doing the rest of the game, jerking off to porn?

I know people will switch it up as the number of players decrease - but he made it sound like he had just sat down with the guy.

He kept mentioning how any Q or any K was worth pushing - he still had enough BBs I dont know that was the case.

IMO he won this SNG but could have just as easily finished anywhere in the top 4 at any point - I dont know if this is the type of win I would broadcast to be based on solid play.

And Pkrfce9 - Its not my fault Cam was in the way!!! I am sure I saved you some chips though.

There's something wrong with this? Why do you think I have two monitors, one dedicated to poker, the other dedicated to PORN!

Honestly tho, I agree with you on the first hand Tom. I don't think he played it well and the video should have been titled, 'Ramblings from a pro on how to be lucky'.

Mind you like everyone else said, the rest didn't seem out of line....but neither was it very educational? The comments about HU not knowing how aggressive the other player was, I can see where he is coming from. Once you get HU things change and I think you need a few hands to re-evaluate your opponent?
  • this is DCJ311 on stars... he's definately a pro.
  • actually on sharkscope he is ranked 4th in any game from $101-$300

and what were you doing during the game tom? cam wasn't even there!
  • Sorry, Graham! I get mixed with the 'ams.

Wow my bad - I just thought his analysis didnt seem particularly insightful.
  • i didn't think it was horrible... have you ever seen a cardrunners video?
  • I agree, his analysis wasn't particularly insightful. We really only see a small sampling of hands and the play is almost automatic at that point.

I don't fault his initial suckout. The SB was in a spot to steal and any ace is generally good here so pushing on the bubble was not a terrible move. The SB *should* have had a monster to want to call there.

He took his own suckout from the short stack like a real man though. To me, that is the mark of a pro. I'm thinking the commentary was added after the fact, which slightly changes my opinion of his level-headedness.
  • lol this guy made me laugh
  • hahah great video. yes there is a fine line between pro and reckless idiot. LOL
  • sharkscope is a great site!
