1/2 NL - 3-way all-in

Big hand from last night at The Shop. The quality of play for the game has been pretty high, with quite a few big hands, and a number of big moves. Not much respect is being given to pre-flop raises since there is usually at least 1 caller, so at least half the hands are usually limped in and played post-flop. "pkrface" Greg has just cashed out so we're 5-handed, and we've decided to play just one more orbit.

SB - "Beanie42" Trevor $235 - Super-tight (compared to table), passive pre-flop, aggressive post-flop.
BB - "DrTyore" Mark $270 - Was up large and has shown a number of good hands, but in last 20 minutes was bluffed HUGE by Tom and sucked out by Hernan. Semi-tight/aggressive.
UTG - "ItsaMe" Mario
CO - "Metro" (TNorth) Tom $280 - Has shown an almost equal number of good hands and bluffs. Has also turned up the aggression in last few orbits and has assumed captaincy of the table. Mixes it up but seems to be playing very laggy right now.
Button - Hernan

Everyone limps in, pot is $10. Flop is:
:3d :9s :5d

Checked around. Turn is:
:6s

And the flood-gates open. SB checks, Mark bets $5, Mario folds, Tom raises another $10, Hernan folds, and Trevor re-raises making it $50 to go. Mark pushes, Tom calls, and I call.

Trevor :7s :8d
Mark :2c :4c
Tom :7c :8c

River is an inconsequential :2h , and Tom and I chop Mark's stack. Hernan claims to have folded 4-7.

Probably the reason this is so interesting is that 5-handed 4 players turn straights, and all are decent enough players that somebody could actually be making a move. When I made it $50, Mark turned to me and said "why so big" and I replied "squeeze play". We all have read the same books and know each others play pretty well, so anything is possible here.

  • I probably thought about my all-in call a lot longer than I should have. Part of it was just scared poker - the last time I got all my chips in on the last orbit with a big hand I lost (rightly so, I was behind), so I was having flashbacks. However, the other thing I was considering was the whole "call into a chop pot". Considering Mark's signature hand, I actually wondered if Mark and I would be chopping Tom's stack. However, I seriously considered whether someone might have a redraw against me. In the end, I had a blocker to both nut redraw hands, so I wasn't worried about the redraw and called. I'm curious if I reversed hands with Tom and had the nuts with no blockers, whether calling might be a mistake?

As far as Mark's push, I really hate it. While we are all capable of making moves, so far I've played tight enough to warrant a little consideration, and I've never made a move (tonight) in a multi-way pot. Also, since this is the last lap, players will generally play a bit tighter than normal (especially if they are up, which all 3 of us were). It should have been an easy fold for Mark, then Tom and I get all the chips in...
  • A thought or two...

I was in the BB, meaning that I saw the flop / turn for free with my 2-4c...

As I mentioned to Trevor, I should have thought more, and by no means was this an instapush. As he mentioned, Tom was being pushy at times, and I thought the possibility of Trevor making a re-move on Tom's move was there, as I could see him making a move like that was a good draw (flush and straight draw possible), so I pushed.

Maybe a mistake, and I'm really curious to see what others think. Please be brutally honest... as for the bluff by Tom and Hernan's AQ/AK hand, I honestly wasn't on tilt.... these things happen, and I'm usually okay when I lose as long as I make the right decision... and with Tom's hand, his pure balls to the wall there made it a great play, and I was really impressed rather than upset. I honestly don't feel these hands made an impact on this one.

I'll vouch for Mark on this, he wasn't tilting here. He may whine, but he doesn't tilt ;) . I think the plays influenced his read of the situation, but it was a "calculated mistake" (if that makes any sense).
  • I don't understand...how did you lose Mark? You hit a pair on the river... :D
  • Well, I do tilt.. but not last night. ;)

  • Wow, quite the hand. Amazing how Mark got doubly destroyed by his own favourite hand. And I don't believe for a second that 47 folded to $15... unless they didn't realize they had the second nut straight.

    /g2
  • I don't think he said he HAD 47... he just pointed out that 47 was the 2nd nuts

On the last hand of the night, I actually had an other straight, but I knew it was no good when raise re-reaise came down.
  • who would have called preflop with what each person had in there hand. Kind of weird but a big payout 2 the winner
  • My name is the Povedawg. I was refered by kristy_sea
  • Well the quick response would be, Trevor, Mark and I. Look at the action and you will understand.

I am going to provide feedback on this hand soon - but I was away all weekend (finally some snow to Ski on!)

This was a crazy hand - I dont think I have spent so much time making a decision as in this hand - and that was when Trevor re-raised me the $50, before Mark pushed All-In.
  • that was a weird hand but none the less still a big pot and big payout
