Requesting Seating Change at a Casino

CASH GAME : what are rules on requesting a seat change at your existing table if a player gets up and leaves and you would prefer the other seat? not sure what the rule is at most casinos and if they usually follow consistent rules.

  • If it's 2 seats or more moving away from the BB, you usually have to post a blind
  • assuming I don't mind posting the BB, moving seats is no problem then? is it common?
  • Before the dealer says that the seat is open for a "new" player they should ask if anyone at the table wants the seat. Not all do tho. If you want that seat immediately speak up and request it. It's a snooze you looze type of deal.
  • That's great, I just wanted to make sure the other players couldn't object and the dealer would allow me to move. Might come in handy.

They can't object, but if someone else wants the seat the dealer just runs high card.

  • Actually, at NFCR, we have Seat Change Request buttons in the dealers' trays. They are numbered 1, 2 and 3. Often, a player will ask for a seat change button (when the table is full). The first to ask gets #1, and so forth. If/when a seat becomes vacant, the player with button #1 gets first dibs. If they decline, #2 and so forth. Existing players will always have priority over the "new" player. If you move more than 2 players (not 2 seats!!), you will need to post.
