How differently could have I played this?

180 Person SNG - 15 players remain - I lost 1/3 of my stack on this hand - could have I done anything else?

  • I like my re-raise. But I have to wonder about simply calling the 4K. I think I knew the guy behind me would go over top. But I couldnt fold 4k into that pot.

Correct? Any suggestions would be great.
  • Tough one. Any reads on any of the players? Hard to not call with 4000 to call into that pot, but the guy that cold call a raise and a re-raise worries me. Read on the players would help, but I don't think theres a way really to lose less. If anything you could've lost more by pushing over top.
  • The player that cold called was decent. I was really surprised to see him just call. With that much in the pot - I figured my re-raise would trigger him to re-raise with QQ-AA.

With his cold call - I though he may think I was making a move and he could want to see a flop with AK.

I obviously had 3 options - re-raise all-in to isolate. Fold or Call. The 4k wasnt going to kill me considering the blinds and my stack.

I opted to call - hoping for a cold call behind me.

I am in fact glad he re-raised - I would have hated to get a 10high flop and act first with that big of a pot out there.
  • Well ended up finishing 4th. Which is ok, but mostly it blows.
  • 2 things come to mind:
if you were willing to go allin with the first guy, why not put him allin with your initial raise?
if you were afraid of the players yet to act behind you, if you had raised another 60 in chips, roots would have had to reraise right away, otherwise the first guy didn't have enough chips left to make a legal raise. Then you at least might have seen the flop.

that's the key point. 2 gold stars, rob.
  • Thanks Rob - that was exactly the type of feed back I was looking for. I didnt even consider taking away the option to make a legal raise.

    Thanks again.
