Poker in Edmonton?

Hello,

I'm heading to Edmonton next month for a couple of days and see that there are several casinos in the city. Can someone tell me about the poker action in the city? I see that my hotel is really close to the Baccarat Casino and on their web site its says they have eight tables of poker. Any info on limits, games spread?

  • sorry, nothing specific, I have heard however that the poker scene in Alberta is one of the best in the country. Outside Kitchener of course.

I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a game.

Baccarat is pretty nice, I play about 80% of my B&M play there. Their constantly running fixed limit games (both with full kill) are 3/6 hold'em and 4/8 dealer's choice (choice of holdem, omaha hi, pineapple and crazy pineapple; the omaha is quite popular). Once in a while a a no-limit (dealer's choice, same options) game or two will get going, often afer 10pm on tournament nights.

I mostly go for their tournaments (all are $55+5) that start at 7:15pm on mondays, wednesdays and saturdays. They have a decent structure that now has antes starting after the first break. It results in kind of a fast paced first hour, then a much flatter blinds progression for the rest of the tournament. Field caps at 66 and often is full by 7pm or so. They do a reserve list, but I don't like getting in late :P
  • All the casinos in edmonton spread the same games pretty much 24 hrs... 3/6 holdem, 4/8 half half (or choice), and 1/2 NL Holdem. Ill just detail some of the other games going on around town.

Baccarat Casino Monday Wednesday Friday theres a 10/20 Omaha Hi-Lo game that goes off at Noon. Tuesday Thursday is a 15/30 Half Holdem / Half Omaha game that starts at Noon.

Argyll 2/5 NL (1000 max buy) can sometimes get off in the evening and the uncapped 5/5 PL choice game gets off around 10PM every night with effective stacks being anywhere from 1k to 3k...sometimes bigger. They also get the 1/2 NL choice game as well.

Yellowhead has a 10/20 holdem on friday evenings starting at 7pm and a 15/30 half half game on saturdays starting at 7pm.

River Cree has sporadic 5/5 pot limit games that go off as well as 6/12 choice and 1/2 NL choice.

Palace casino in West Edm Mall is closed i think cuz of the strike.

Celebrations casino on fort rd. only has the regular games mentioned at the top.
  • Perfect, Thanks guys!
  • Havent played at river cree yet, how is it?
