Aviation Club - public?

So I recently find out I have to go to France for a week and will be in Paris towards the end of the trip...

Is the Aviation Club de Paris open to the public or is this strictly private to members? I may have to brush up on my Omaha... :)

I believe it is public........but it does have a dress code......ie no jeans and I think shirts with a colar.
  • I think if you live in France you have to get a membership and join the club, if you are from another country they will let you in with out a membership but you have to show them your passport.
  • It is open to the public but yes there is a dress code, but nothing to strict.

Good luck, also my friend just got back from here. He was there for about 3 months and said the play in the 2-5NL and 5-10NL is SUPER soft.

    Good luck
  • Ya, the dress code was a non-issue. Jeans and collared shirt were the standard. That being said, the room IMO sucked. Smokers everywhere. The brush kind of wanders around (so it took me awhile to find the right person to even get on the list). People waiting for a game just kind of wander the room waiting for their name to be called (literally, the brush would yell a couple initials in French and then wipe your name from the list if you didn't find him). In other words the room was utter chaos. Their game offerings range from baby NL (1-2NL 30max (wtf?) or 100max buyin, and 2-2 200max buyin NL, as well as 2-5 500max (I think). Zero fixed limit games unless you wanted to play high stakes (200-400). Really, the only thing going for this room is it's location (right on the Champs-Elysees). I find it shocking that the WPT actually holds events here.
  • That's odd. I had an absolutely tremendous time there in 2005. Obviously it's different than a Vegas trip, but isn't that the point? How can anyone not have a blast in Europe?

I thought the room was amazing. So much history, and it had that classy sophisticated vibe. Everyone smokes in Paris, what can you do? I played a 30 Euro LHE tournament (1 rebuy + 1 add on), then played a PL dealers choice game, which was way too much fun, drank a ton, and even tried my luck over on the casino side. I can't wait to go back. I didn't make a franc, but that night was very memorable. To be in Paris meeting people from all over, getting bombed and playing poker was good times. Then my friend who lives in Paris took us to an afterhours club nearby that had a lineup of about 100 people at 3 am and we walked right in. Full booth VIP bottle service with 17 yr old models everywhere. Danced to cheesy music until 6 am. How can you beat that?

You misunderstand me. Although much of the trip was work-related, Europe was great, and the brief stop over in Paris was fantastic. It's just the poker experience that sucked (and I was even up a bit).

I didn't get the "classy sophisticated vibe" at all. More the "how do we run a poker room" vibe. I guess it depends maybe on when you go.

Brantford looked world-class by comparison IMO (from a poker room perspective). And obviously the higher end Vegas rooms look outstanding (I still think Wynn is my favorite room thus far, although I haven't played Bellagio yet). Just my 2 cents.
