bubble out 5 time today
today, i bubble out 5 time (basically if i can just click on fold, i did be getting some money)
even know the tournment payout are alot sweeter if you get in like top 3.
but would you place it to win or to get in the bubble first then play it to win?
sometimes i think if i don't play it to win the tournment, i can still make good money.
instead mini $50 or more, I end up losing 50, because i am disregarding the fact is one more to the burst of bubble.
your though on this?
all 5 time i have decent stacked size
those are eighter 19 player or 45 player MTT 10 dollar buy in
bubble out
1st AK vs 99, i lost it because no A or K M12
2nd JJ vs 44, a 4 came out on the flop. M9
3rd 99 VS QQ, i lost it as well M6
4th AJ vs KK, i lost it M4.5
5th KQ vs QJ, i lost it as well. M10

2. I'm not sure how you got all your stack in with AK with M12? Same question KQ, M10.
3. If bubbling is bothering you, then you are playing too high a buyin. Do you track your success rate and ROI?
2. KQ, i raise 3x, and get call by QJ. flop K J 2. I bet the pot, and get raise allin back to me. so i call (half of my stack is in already). turn is J. he hold up to win it.
3. bubble does not bothering me, i only play at the level, where i have enough bankroll 50x buy-in.
it just that, i think instead of losing 50 dollar, i could of get min 50,but realistic speaking, i should be about getting 100-200 dollar if i have just wait until bubble burst, i definely has enough to go into top 3 with 1st, 2nd and 5th tourny.
so i put in 100 dollar into fulltilt around Dec.20. now i have around 500 (some cash game winning, but mostly tourny) so 100-200 dollar is like 20-40% increase of my bankroll. although take down the tourny is alot more money, but ....do you know what i'm saying.
Johnnie.
ps...3 of those hands, you were behind anyway.
Finishing just outside the bubble is fine. Granted you may want to re-think some hand selection - depending, as Moose mentioned, whether or not you are calling or pushing.
I like to play hard at the bubble - with hands I would have been tossing earlier - because so many other players are thinking like you are - "I only need to wait for 5" people to drop before I get some return.
Play aggresively, but not carelessly - don't call in this situation - you want to raise and you want to be the first person in the pot - or you want to get out - unless you have a great hand.
Watch the other players determine who is waiting to break the bubble and determine who is capitalizing on the tight-passive play.
It only takes one top 3 finish in an MTT to put yourself far ahead of what you would ever get going out in the lower echelons of the payout schedule.
There is nothing wrong with busting on the bubble or right after the bubble, but it should be down in the pursuit of 1st place.
I think ur demise will be greed, u said if u place it'll be a lot more money, but what would happen if u went for the $100 tourney and lost? you'd probably try and martingale it (kinda taboo term for poker, but its the best way to put it)in another tourney or higher stake cashgame and another until u get even or bust, but why not build it bit by bit instead?
Say if you lost 9 consecutive tourneys at $50thats a $495 loss, including the house fee, you'd be pretty much even.(which would be hard to do for a knowlegeable player) After that u win an 18 player on ur 10th for example on Pokerstars, you'd still be down $135 which is more 1x on ur buyin ur down(1st is $360). However, If u grinded the $20 MTT 18 players instead you'd have a waayyy healthier bankroll ,(cuz on there a win is $144 in the 18 player tourney) and if you lost 9 times (-$198 ) and won on the 10th (like above) you'd be short $54. This is a little more than .5X less on ur buyin, which is easily recoupable at a ripe cash game, and is much easier to grind back than the $90 loss and I'd think would probably a better % edge than against the $50 MTTs, and maybe you'd be less paranoid of just missing the line.
A good Money management strategy I think would be to look for a comfortable, consistent stake (your Comfortable Stake Game <CSG>) to build say:$20 use that to consistently place and build it up gradually as a source to build up ur bankroll. If I did win a $20 tourney, I was ahead in total $, and was on a wicked tear it that would give me the confidence to try the $50+5 to see if I could get something going.I would still have $89 profit from the tourney which leaves me over 50% of my profit, so it wouldn't be a waste, and I could still make a profit if I lost the bigger stake tourneys. if I won around $200+ in the $50 then I'd try the $100, if I won 500+ then the $200 if I won 800+ I'd keep going and go until I lost or got under the win amount in the higher stakes I'd drop back to my CSG (comfortable stake game) and build back, and run for it later. You'd gradually increase the CSG as ur bankroll would allow, I'd say somewhere between 20-50X the buyin is a comfortable CSG, ppl wouldn't be attached to each win as much, 10X makes ppl play more cautiously which could hurt their aggression and their win %. That's just my logic on tournament money management, long as hell, yes,yes I know, but hey it gives u ppl somethin to dissect line-for-line to get ur kicks, lol.
