would you fold knowing you have the best hand?
this question has bothering me alot during tournment play.
i don't like to fold a hand, when you know you have the best hand. that is regardless what i have, even i think my A high is good, i would call the all-in bet.
sometimes i donky call an allin bet on rag flop with my JJ and run into higher packet pair, or i flop top to pair run into a set. stuff happen. i can accept that. I won't be tilting. i'm pretty good at controlling myself, and know when i'm on tilt.
Yesturday, I have been on Tilt, and i didn't know i was on tilt for the first time. i finally notice 'm tilting, i stop playing poker yesturday, and start to think what happen.
I am not sure, if the hand put me on tilt or the comment from the other player made put me on tilt.
The hand
fulltilt 15k tournment
290 player left top 153 get pay
blind 200/400
my stacked 9700
I was dealt AK on the bottom
all folded, except middle position guy limp in
somewhat soso player with 7700 in stack.
I reraise it to 1200, he call.
flop 2,5,3
he check.
I bet 1/2 the pot 1500,
he move all-in 6500
so i have to put addition 4000 into 11000,
i have good read here, i know he has nothing, but A high. so my AK is good.
I was thinking to lay my AK down, to avoid suck out, after all, i only have A high.
at the time, i am 56/290 on chip count, if i win this one, i'll be around 6/290. I hit myself on the head, and "WTF, you have to best hand, he is giving you all his chip, Take it"
I call his all-in bet
he show A 9. i made the right read, and made the right call. and will be in good position to take this tournment down.
Turn is a 9. so he hold up to win it.
at this time, my mind is still clear, no crybaby action.
i saw this comment from the other guy.
calling me a fish, making a donky bad call with nothing.....etc all the trash talk stuff.(which i think put me on tilt, cause i had him)
here come my question.
1). Knowing he has nothing, and your nothing is bigger, would you lay this hand down, just to be avoid accident that may hurt you? close to the bubble i would let him have it. but bubble still far away.

You were a huge fav here.
Not sure how you managed to get a read like this off him.
Did he like to push with nothing and show?
Would he have just called your raise with 55?
1) he is so so player, he know what he is doing.
2)usually small poacket pair, if all fold to you, you'll raise it in middle position, and fold if got reraise back to you.
3) i only bet 1/2 the pot, it did not indict strenght, with pot size like that, one would bet the pot with strenght. if he hit his trip, he would just call, and see if he can suck out any more chip off me. he is favorite to win it with trips.
4) if he just raise me a little or just call my bet, i would be more concern, then this sudden all-in bet.
My take on this, he probly figure his nothing is bigger then my nothing (since he has A) so he move all-in with his nothing.
No?
Same percentage wise.... (actually not, if a 4 hit, then he had the wheel)gutsy call with A high, but if you're getting the 3:1 odds (roughly) you said, given your read, it's a great call. If he does have say, 77 for example, you have 10 outs (3x A, 3xK, and 4x4 for the wheel). So 3:1 is the right odds regardless.

i'm not upset by the hand, but more upset when he comment on how donky i am, when i had him. it has me on tilt,(mainly because i want to get my chips back from him)
If it's the hand, just play more and get used to it - suck outs happen. If it's the chat, simply turn it off.
This simply shows how stupid your opponents are. Take advantage of this, since this player has just told you he won't call an all-in without a big hand.
Actually knowing is a difficult thing, usually you're against a range at best. However, if I KNOW I'm ahead post-flop, I won't lay my hand down.
If you know you are ahead, the buble is irrelevant (except in special satellite situations). Folding when ahead simply to avoid any risk is super-weak, you'll be lucky to even make the money playing this way, and you definitely won't win. Bubble-time is often the best time to move from "just making it" to a contender, but the risk is bubbling. However, if you check the payout structure of most tourneys, going really deep a few times pays a lot better than constantly bubbling.
yplc, baby! That is all you have to type back. yplc.

This is where you call him a donk for trying to bluff a fishy player like yourself. 2nd level donkeyness at it's finest!
