Pinnacle Sportsbook

Pinnacle sportsbook as of today has chosen to leave the US market and are requiring all their US clients to withdraw immediately. I find it hard to believe in the middle of NFL playoffs a company would do this but they are. Poker players are not the only ones being affected.

    Interesting development.

Pinnacle, imho, is probably the best online sportsbook. I'm surprised they did this *before* the Super Bowl. While it won't have any direct impact on Canadians, it had one of the best reputations out there, so it will be interesting to see what other impact their decision will have (ie. will smaller books do the same; will their juice change because of a small customer base, etc.?).

  • U.S. authorities detained two former directors and founding shareholders of NETeller, the online money transfer firm said on Tuesday, adding it had requested the suspension of trading in its shares.
Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre were detained on Monday while traveling separately in the United States, NETeller said, becoming the latest victims of the U.S. crackdown on Internet gaming.
It said neither Lawrence nor Lefebvre had any current connection to the company other than as shareholders.

More importantly, some insiders are speculating that Pinnacle Sports got wind of this event ahead of time, thereby prompting Pinnacle Sports to stop taking bets from US citizens last Thursday.

If this is true, then Pinnacle Sports acted responsibly by complying with US law given the current climate the online gambling industry is currently facing.
With the recent attacks by overzealous bureaucrats in some US states, EOG is recommending that Internet gamblers be extremely cautious at this time.
