I've looked in a few stores buy can't seem to find Canadian Poker Player mag anywhere. What stores in the GTA carry it? I tried Chapters, unless it was all sold out, wasn't in there. TIA
Also Chapters at Bay and Bloor. It's tough to find them in amongst the millions of magazines, but they're there. Best to ask a clerk, or, in the Chapters at Bay and Bloor, it's on the east wall of magazines, extreme left.
Ok so they do stock it at Chapters, it was probably just sold out at the Markham location. Is it in the Mens section, along with Player magazine, Maxims, Cigar afficionado and stuff?
It was in the ambiguously-named 'current issues' section at Bay and Bloor. This could mean one of three things:
1) "Current issues" = current affairs, or happenings that are taking place in our society right now.
2) "Current issues" = The latest issues of magazines. However, ALL of their magazines in every section are the most current issues, so having a section specifically set aside for this seems redundant.
3) "Current issues" = Magazines about social issues, or problems, that are currently facing our society. I'd be most inclined to go with this option but the magazines that CPP is grouped in with in this section don't fit this description.
Yes, it's free at every Canadian casino, I think. They sell them in Chapters for people who would spend more on gas getting to and from a casino than the price of the magazine, and aren't subscribers. For example, non-subscribers who live in Toronto, and aren't planning a trip to a casino in the foreseeable future.
Also, I believe casinos get a limited number, so once the magazines get moved out of the poker room (ie: taken home, or to another part of the casino), or ripped/bent/mauled out of shape, there wouldn't be any more available until the next month's issue.
Found a copy in the 'Men's Interests' section at Chapters. $6.95? C'mon, I pay that for UK import soccer magazines. Is the subscription heavily discounted? or are we subsidizing the freebies to the cardrooms? Sorry guys, but that seems a tad steep.
I know when I suscribed, it was $49.95 for 12 months, which is what the web site still shows (so, I assume it still applies). That's a pretty good discount over the store price, and well worth the investment.
We priced the magazine based upon what seems typical of "special interest" magazine. I am sorry of you find the cover price to be steep. All I can tell you is that we take a small loss overall on newstand sales. We believe it is important to make the magazine widely available and to support our advertisers with newstand sales so we do it as a "break even" proposition.
Thank you for your response, Dave. I enjoyed your book very much, and thus my interest in the magazine and web site. I will continue to lurk here awhile and, if I continue to enjoy the results, will make use of the subscription offer available.
I'm not sure which Chapters actually carry it. I can say that the 'big' Chapters in Toronto all seem to have copies every month, but I know that doesn't help much. Probably best to call the one in K-W before you head out there.
Otherwise, as CO suggested, their subscription service is really very good. They send the mag in a big envelope... it's usually pristine when it arrrives at my door. And yes, Canadian casinos do have copies available for free, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, they probably disappear after a few days in the poker room, and if they don't, you probably don't want to be touching them for very long.

If the free mag at the River Rock Casino is called "Canadian Poker Player Magazine", then yes. If it's "Hustler", then no.

Is this mag available at any Chapters in K-W? Or should I just wait until I go to Brantford and actually look for it?
or mail order

Hope this helps.
