Calling a raise with connectors

I was wondering, and hope to get some advise
if you go to a live game, there is alot of raise and reraise would you consider playing with suited or unsuit connectors at all?
say
56,67,78,89,9T,J10 suited if been rasie before you, how many X of blind would be reasonable to call? and if you got reraise after you call, would you consider paying more, or just throw away?
how about if it's not suited?
cards like 68,69,79,7T, how many X of blind would you call with those, suited or unsuited?
if getting cold cards, but recieving alot connector and connectors with gap (69,7T), almost every pot is been raise and reraise. would you play them or just be patien?
I notice the games, alot of people are very tight, and only play high value cards. such as packet, AK-T, KQ-T,QJ,JT. so when they do have it, they always come in with a raise.
each poeple start with 4000, and after trying see some flop with connectors, and one packet 9 with raised flop like K Q J. the turn is too expensive to see when i know i am beat. i end up with 2200.
I don't know what's the best game plan. or has no game at all, and i really need to win one, for my confidence level. any suggestion?

  • My philosophy is (and anyone I play with can confirm this).... you should only play cards in the 2-9 range. Everyone else plays face cards, so you are more likely to hit the flop than them.

That's pretty good Greg but I also try to make sure they are at least the same color. Not suit but color..... I'm not a complete donk.
  • A. Be patient. Playing connectors can be part of your overall game plan but not something you can do often and be profitable. Unless you are very, no wait VERY good postflop.

    B. When you are thinking of calling with these type of hands you want to think in terms of stack size not the size of the big blind.

eg. It may make sense to call a 3XBB bet with suited connectors if your stack is 200BB. It would never make sense to call a 2XBB bet with SC if your stack is 10BB.

    C. From the nature of your post I would suggest that you read some books to gain a base for your poker knowledge.

Maybe even knowing it's pocket 9's not packet. I'm an engineer, can't spell worth shit and I find the spelling on here to be bad.

Oh yes and what caddy said.
  • Another thing to consider is position.

If you're in MP and call a raise from EP, and someone behind you re reaises to 6 or 8 BB or more, do you think your SCs will hold up? Unless you have a solid read on your opponents, it's risky.

SC's can be a very powerful hand when played correctly, it's knowing when to play them and how far to go with them that will earn you the most. They're useful, but in moderation with all the other skills you need.
  • I'd like to echo AJ's post...

Play position and player more too... if there's a dude raising repeatedly, calling him from position is great, if you hit, decide what he has.. hopefully you'll hit big!
