Finally a poker room for us Eastern Ontario denizens

FYI:

The little 1000 Islands Casino just off the 401 at Gananoque has added a 4 table (yes 4 table) poker room. They offer limit only (3/6, 6/12 and 10/20). I played there yesterday...actually a nicely done little room...dealers and management are new so many bugs to be worked out...but all in all a nice experience. I finished up about $50 after playing 3/6 for only 3 hours. It's just nice to have something within about an hour and 15 minutes of Ottawa.

  • What was the rake/session fee?

  • To be honest I am not sure...I think it was $1 per $10 to a maximum of $4. No flop or pot under $10 means no rake.
  • Hey Brickwall,
Will you head back there in the high tourist season and give us a report on the level of play?
  • I'll probably hit it a few times this winter too. Always wondered if they had a poker room when I drove by it.

I have family in Gananoque, and I'm always tempted to waltz in and play poker. I'm glad I didn't waste my time if there was no room!
  • It just opened.
I know, I can read. [insert tongue-sticking-out-at-a-baby-eater here] haha

  • im glad u got a game there im from kingston and couldnt wait for them to get the tables up and running iv been 3 times know and didnt get agame after waiting over 3 hours they need more tables and more limits even a no limit table
  • I went to Gananoque this weekend to check out the room!

This was my first time in the casino. First of all, it's really small compared to the ones I'm used to. Even Port Perry is bigger than this.

Anyway, I find my to the poker pit and the shortest list is the 6/12. They are running a 3/6, 4/8, 6/12 and 10/20. The 10/20 seemed like a regular group as some of the guys at our table keep refering to them as the corporation because they all took break at the same time.

I was there saturday night and it was 2 hours before I got seated to the 6/12 table. Mind you that it took over 2 hours for the other one behind me to get called. Good stuff then! First off, the area is small. There's not a lot of space to manoeuvre to your spot. The staff very cordial and dealers I found did there job well and they were pretty fast only been open for a month. It's rake based on the table I was at, 4 or 5% I think, maximum of 5$. Might be mistaken but pretty sure. Also a big plus, couple of flat screen TV's to watch sports while playing some poker! Big downer is the use of the white chips... it's it really hard to just make it 5/10? You get big stacks of white for no reason... looks impressive, that's pretty much it! It was impressive when I was shoved a big pot of around 250-275 when I had Aces and flopped trips. I had over 40-50 bucks in whites shoved to me with some red, should really get rid of the whites.

As for the players, they ranged from good to god awful as one guy spilled over 600$ onto the table for everyone to grab too. I finished up 300, very happy and I would defenitly go back, money to be made there!

One final thought, get there early if you want to play!
  • My story is pretty much exactly the same as MainEvent's. Got there at 8:30pm Saturday night and signed up for 3/6 4/8 and 6/12. About 2 hours later got called to 6/12. Bought in for $270 (odd amount cuz I was up from roulette). I would say the 6/12 here is exactly the same as 2/5 at Brantford... which is a beautiful thing :) Left at 2am up $180.

Other info on the casino: $5 roulette, $5 craps, and even open seats at $5 and $10 blackjack table.
