  • Go back a few pages in the Casino/club section.

Quite a few members have posted trip reports, with regards to hotels and such.
  • that is all about where to play. Im looking for hotels.
  • I've stayed at Orleans, which is just a few minutes off the strip....very nice 3+star hotel. Ask about the package deals which include buffet...shouldn't be more than $50 per night this time of year.

I've also stayed at the Excalibur on the strip...not bad...great location...very reasonable...I just received an email advertising $39 per night including buffet...can't beat the value there. The poker room is nice too. I just played 2/4 there and broke even but the tables were very soft.
  • do me a favour, keep an eye out in the vegas airport for a sign about how Canadians who have won money can claim back taxes paid on winnings.

    the sign reads:

    Attention "Canadians"
    claim what's rightfully yours!

It's really funny because of "Canadians" in quotes as if we're the "so called" Canadians. If you get a chance and see it, snap a digital picture of it for me. :)
  • If you want a cheap place, and you're going with a bunch of the boys, stay at the Imperial Palace. If you're taking the wife/gf then look elsewhere.
  • do not stay at the imperial palace if you hate waiting for elevators. When i was there in May, 2 of the 4 elevators were out of operation on a saturday night at 12pm till morning. I think the imperial will be the next vegas demo job.
  • Imperial Palace, not the best, not flashy, not dirty, comfortable BUT they have the absolute best comp program on the strip.

The poker tables are soft too....They pay $3/hour...or at least they did 2 years ago when Wolff and I went.
  • Call the hotels directly and try and get poker room rates or just negotiate with the hotel directly. You won't find the best deals by just searching the internet anymore.

Anyway, Vegas hotels are in the eye of the beholder. I like places that are dirt cheap and don't have bullets flying through the walls. So I lean towards places like The Riv or <sigh> the beautifully cheap Stardust <goner> etc. No Belagio's for me.
  • Flamingo
    nice rooms
    central on the strip
    average price
the only place my wife will stay in vegas:)
  • The Flamingo actually does have nice bedrooms although the hotel is dated. It is very central, great for all the main strip poker rooms.

I havent stayed at Excalibur, but I've heard the rooms are poor by Vegas standards.

If you are thinking of staying in one place most of the time for poker, then call for a poker rate, you might get really cheap. I would recommend the MGM Grand
  • I got an email from the Gold Coast today. I will not use it but if anyone is going from Feb 1st to March 31st they are offering a $52.00 US per room, valid Thursday to Sunday.

Not the greatest hotel but it is right beside the Rio, and has a shuttle to their sister properties and one is beside Ceasers, Belagio.......

    PM me for details.
  • They also have a wicked Chinese Food place in there called Ping Pang Pong I think and their 6-8 table poker room is filled with retired weak tighties. I learned limit there sorta at the 4/8 game...total joke.

    the beautifully cheap Stardust
Stardust is closed as of Nov 1st.
  • Imperial Palace is $49 per night right now (weekdays). Just sign up for the newsletters for the casinos you wanna stay at.

The IP poker room comp rate is only $2 per hour. The Venetian is $3 per hr and is swarmed with locals, beware. ;)

LOL @ the elevators. They take for ever, but found the stairs easily enough, going down only. What a weird little spot. Harrah's did recently buy the IP and will be closing it down in early 2008 i was told?

Good ol vegas. It never stops changing. I cant' wait to go back and play the rooms that I missed last trip.

EDIT: The Imperial Palace seems to have a very high Canadian clientel. I sat down at the $2/$4 fixed table and a guy say, "are you Canadian". I confirmed that I was, and he introduced me to the other 80% of the table who was Canadian. Three AB, Two ON, One BC, One NS, and me from PEI. All very friendly of course.
  • Same impression I had when i played at the IP last 2 years .. atmosphere more like a home game!
Anyway for anyone who plays more than poker, say blackjack, getting a player card has its benefits ... my GF now gets hotel room/show offers almost every month to stay at the Harrahs/Bally/Paris.
  • As echoed, if the only reason you're going is to play poker, go during the week. Friday and Saturday night rooms in general are going to be about double what you'd pay during the week. I've stayed at both the IP and the excalibur. Pretty decent room rates, we stayed using the Excalibur's poker rate which required 5 hrs daily play (can be split between 2 people). In general I preferred the IP's more central location to the Excalibur's south strip spot. Both rooms have tiny limits, which was sufficient for the last 2 trips (half the time was basically 3-4 friends at a table playing drunken 2-4 or 3-6). If you're looking for MTT's I'd recommend Caesers 80 + 50 rebuy nooner tourny. 1500 chips plus 3000 more for the 50 dollar rebuy (which IMO is a no brainer). 40 min levels. Decent amount of play for the price. If you're looking for mid to higher limits, you're probably looking at Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian and the Mirage (generally center to north strip). MGM is probably your best bet at the south end for a variety of stakes. Most other rooms will have small rooms with 2-4 and 3-6 FL and 1-2NL. Wynn is supposed to have a crazy poker rate for $129 USD during the week (6hrs daily play), which IMO is a steal. In general I wouldn't expect the hotel prices to fluctuate that much, just try to find a reasonable flight. As far as flight tips, the only thing I can recommend is that from my experience Westjet is the way to go. We flew America West the first time (thursday-Sunday) and westjet the 2nd. The difference at the airport was like night and day. Unless things have changed, Westjet flies out of a different terminal at McCarron (much much less busy).
