Quite a few members have posted trip reports, with regards to hotels and such.
I've also stayed at the Excalibur on the strip...not bad...great location...very reasonable...I just received an email advertising $39 per night including buffet...can't beat the value there. The poker room is nice too. I just played 2/4 there and broke even but the tables were very soft.
the sign reads:
Attention "Canadians"
claim what's rightfully yours!
It's really funny because of "Canadians" in quotes as if we're the "so called" Canadians. If you get a chance and see it, snap a digital picture of it for me.
The poker tables are soft too....They pay $3/hour...or at least they did 2 years ago when Wolff and I went.
Anyway, Vegas hotels are in the eye of the beholder. I like places that are dirt cheap and don't have bullets flying through the walls. So I lean towards places like The Riv or <sigh> the beautifully cheap Stardust <goner> etc. No Belagio's for me.
nice rooms
central on the strip
average price
the only place my wife will stay in vegas:)
I havent stayed at Excalibur, but I've heard the rooms are poor by Vegas standards.
If you are thinking of staying in one place most of the time for poker, then call for a poker rate, you might get really cheap. I would recommend the MGM Grand
Not the greatest hotel but it is right beside the Rio, and has a shuttle to their sister properties and one is beside Ceasers, Belagio.......
PM me for details.
The IP poker room comp rate is only $2 per hour. The Venetian is $3 per hr and is swarmed with locals, beware.
LOL @ the elevators. They take for ever, but found the stairs easily enough, going down only. What a weird little spot. Harrah's did recently buy the IP and will be closing it down in early 2008 i was told?
Good ol vegas. It never stops changing. I cant' wait to go back and play the rooms that I missed last trip.
EDIT: The Imperial Palace seems to have a very high Canadian clientel. I sat down at the $2/$4 fixed table and a guy say, "are you Canadian". I confirmed that I was, and he introduced me to the other 80% of the table who was Canadian. Three AB, Two ON, One BC, One NS, and me from PEI. All very friendly of course.
Anyway for anyone who plays more than poker, say blackjack, getting a player card has its benefits ... my GF now gets hotel room/show offers almost every month to stay at the Harrahs/Bally/Paris.
