it can't be worse, the worse hasn't come yet

I learn today, the old saying " it can't be worse, the worse hasn't come yet".
playing the tournment at the club, 4000 to start, i'm building up nice stack before the break.
after the break....... took the downturn bad
it all start from this hand
blind at 400/800
shortstack under the gun, limb in.
I look down. i see KK
I raise to 2400,
another short stock behine me went all in (he has exactly 2400) 1st short stacked went allin as well.(my raise cover him too)
cards turn over.
1st shortstack KJ
2nd shortstack 10 8
i'm laughing ^^/
flop 2 10 8..... lost that one. &%^&$%^
next hand
the 2nd short stack calls blind all-in before the card is dealt.(6800 push in)
he feel lucky, since 10 8 beat my KK.
everybody fold, i'm BB. since he didn't see his card, can't really put a read on him, i look down. packet 8s, so i call.
he turn over KK....great...dooooooh
flop came with a K too. ok....over kill, i just double him out twice
now i'm short stack.
waiting for a hand,....blind went up to 600/1200 (just had enough to go though blinds once)
i am under the gun, i see AJ, went 1800 all-in
everybody fold except BB, he call addition 600
AJ vs J2
i was so happy
flop X2X, ok......need that A now
turn 2, fine....i'm out
i got bust out of tournment, just like that from a good position to win it.
if you guys see an error on my playing, please let me know.
i'm thinking maybe i should of fold the 88, it definely the hand that take me down hard. if i fold that hand, i would be able to put a nice raise on my AJ, BB won't call it. and tournment keep going.

Perhaps the BB would not call had you folded the 8's and perhaps you would have won the blinds, big deal....you did nothing wrong against a blind all-in sitting on 88 looking to double up I'd likely do the same....what are the odds of 88 versus any random hand people, I think most times you're going in ahead and besides judging by your stack size after the first beat your M likely warranted a call with the 8's?

I think the bottom line is you're looking for something you did wrong and I don't think you did anything wrong. You have to embrace the idea that sometime the cards will be cruel, your opponents wanted to gamble and this round they won, next time your KK will hold up and you'll go a lot deeper in the tourney.

You have to learn to suck up the bad beats and move on. Whatever you did prior to those three hands had you in good position, focus on making sure you continue that rather then the 3 bad beats that knocked you out.
  • A pair of 8's would win 68.72% of the time in a two-player game, with an expected return of +38.33%, so it is a no-brainer call. All you can do in poker is make the correct decision based on the odds and other available information.
