5. I have good memories of doing well in some of the more "special" events. Winning KWGM2, finishing 2nd in the 24-hour Bristol Bender, and being points leader at the inaugural Ryder Cup are all pretty special memories for me.
4. The Royal Cup is one of my best memories. Ignoring how I did personally or how my team did (great at the first one, and we showed up for the second ), this was my favorite tournament of the year (both times ). Having the entire community respond so quickly and enthusiastically to a simple idea, and then having Sandro run with this idea and turn it into one of the most celebrated events on the forum was huge. Despite a few difficulties and conflicts that arose, this event really brought us all together for one of the most competitive and friendly events of the year. Thanks Sandro for putting this together, and thanks to everyone I got to meet and play with - this was a big highlight! (and I can't wait for #3...)
3. Surprisingly, one of my fond memories is hitting the most horrific losing skid of my short career. I'm glad it's now just a memory (although I know stuff will happen in the future), but surviving such a huge loss really taught me a lot about myself and helped me to improve in "non-skill" areas like bankroll management and attitude. As much as it hurt and frustrated me, it helped me advance at the same time.
2. One of my fondest memories is fairly recent - watching Jenn make a run at the Bristol HU title. Seeing her do so well in such a tough field (and difficult discipline, at least for me) was great.
1. Disney. Best memory, hands down. Being able to give my kids the best memory of their lives by playing a game I enjoy felt amazing (and the actual vacation was pretty good too ).
My top poker related moment is my Vegas trip with Shtebs, Shetbs Dad and my brother-in-law. Even though I didn't come back ahead (damn Wheel of Fortune and Carribean Stud!) I had a wicked ass time. Great food, great casinos (Wynn, Ceasar's, Bellagio and to a lesser extent the Alaadin) and great company.
Other moments, starting with $50 and making it into $523 in 33 minutes on Q-Poker. Cashed out and never played there again.
The Bristol Bender. What a great night/morning/afternoon! And it also got me off my ass and into KWLT. (AD ALERT - Come see me in Moonchildren in January!!! - END AD ALERT)
2006, well the last week has not been good for me, let's hope Christmas is a happy memory....but not to dwell on the bad what was good in 2006?
- recovering my bankroll after a free (and awesome) Vegas trip in 2005 proved to me that I actually think I can play ok?
- using my recovered bankroll to pay for 1 week at an amazing cottage
- recovering that bankroll yet again to book a cottage for 2007 and still play comfortably at my levels, woot woot!
- taking the Silver Medal in the inaugural "Lazy Man Olympics", man that was fun!
- my new dog Scruffy, he's very cool
- mostly, and yes this is lame, just having such a great family and a great group of friends to hang out with.
- beer!
- 2nd in the CHPC final this summer on my deck was also a fond memory partly because I never money at my house but mostly because it was a great group of friends and a beautiful day!
My favorite memory is of Trevor stealing my idea, and making it better!
Ok, for real:
1. PEI trip with the wife- we had a great cottage on the north shore, tons of great food, not so great golf, (I suck) and not getting lost driving through Montreal. TWICE! (I rule!)
2. RC2- an amazing day of poker! I played fairly well, had a great time seeing the faces that I had known only as avatars on this forum. Also watching Wolffhound pwn the whole day and then the bar afterward. I also still don't know how to pronouce (or spell!) the Chiti-whatever-my League.
3. Legends of Bristol- Although my play at the FT was an embarASSment to poker, I was really happy to make the FT. Playing though day 1C and Day 2 was grueling, to say the least. Well done Rob, how about Lengends v2.0?
4. Jays games! I got to 6 games this year, and they finally won the last two. Thanks to Wes and Easy for the tix!
5. Winning Bristol 23- do I have to explain that one? Winning is cool. But doing it against players I truly respect and fear, felt awesome. It still feals awesome.
Also many, many other games/nights with my friends, getting sauced/staying sober, just hanging out around the felt.
