2007 poker resolutions?
I have a few so far.
1. 2007 is going to be "The year of the tournament" for me. I've been a cash game player 90% of the time for my years of playing and have played very few tournaments overall, yet the few I have played, I've had modest success in them, so it's time for me to find out if my strength is there.
2. Keep better records. I say this every year, but I always fail. Mind you, I kept good tournament records for 2006, just not for ring games...so maybe because of #1 I'll be okay for 2007.
Got a few more resolutions involving CPF and personal life, but that's another thread.

I am also going to find the time to play more MTTs. I don't play them because if I do well I need to devote a lot of time to it. I just never have 4+ hours to play.
2007 is going to be the "Cash game year" for me. Been mainly a tourney player, but would like to get about 75% cash games/25% MTT
1. Improve my live record-keeping. While my online records are nearly perfect (thanks to PT), I stopped tracking my live results mid-year (which was a huge mistake).
2. Study and review my play more frequently. As my game improved, I started spending a greater percentage of my time playing, and I stopped doing regular (daily) reviews of my play. The study helped overall, but the daily reviews identified some short-term leaks/patterns, so I'm pretty sure I can improve my play/results by spending a bit less time on the felt.
3. Improve my attitude after bad beats, and lose the feeling that I "deserve to win" simply because I play better. While I'm usually pretty good, I show some obvious frustration when I lose due to someone else's (repeated) mistakes. This bothers me partly due to the social nature of a lot of our games (I don't like being ticked at my friends), but also because I might be missing the opportunity to notice some holes in my game (since I'm focusing on somebody else's more obvious mistakes).
4. Find a way to play more live with my wife (rather than us going to different games). Winning more often to cover babysitting would help , but hosting more often is probably more likely...
I also hope to be out to more live games in 2007 and to play more MTT's on-line.....ring games can be such a grind!
Oh yeah, I wanna beat Mark at Wii bowling too!
Actually, I didn't start 2006 all that bad, but lately been taking a beating, especially online. Need to regroup and refocus. I did move up in limits, but I think I need to backstep abit for awhile now.
Also, I want to play alot more MTT's...low buyin stuff...see if I can't make it the payouts a couple of times.
2)keep records
3)learn to play omaha (well)
4)learn to play live better.
5)read more poker books.
6)Learn more emotional control..a bad day/mood really does effect my play
1) Learn to play NL, and advance to the 100NL game
2) Win more MTT's w/ more than 200 entries than 2006(ie win 2)
3) Play more B&M tourneys (man are they ever soft)
4) Go back to school (First have to figure out what to take)
5) Continue working out (Have gotten a good start, 5 weeks straight )
Amen!
I'd like to control the ol'stovetop better, for sure.
Also, I'd like to get to the casino more.
Johnnie.
ps..Eric, good luck at beating Mark at Wii bowling. He's a monster.
It's colon " : " and a "D" you luckbox! :D:D:D
2) make it onto the poker player database on the Hendon Mob (i.e. play in one major tournament and place in the money);
3) be the first player to make it to the final six tables on Degree for the second time (unlikely but why not);
4) Play in more Kitchener based tournaments and take one down!
5) Breakeven in Bradford (real long shot)
2006 was the year of reducing the losses...and trying to control the temper..and admitting my crappy poker play in cash games..
2007 - Start record taking, other then cash based...aka start giving myself points for tourney finishes...
- avoid cash games that are beyond my reach, skill or value rise
- try to find more limit games
- try to find more omaha games
- try to find more tourney's
other then that...umm peace on earth, good will to women (men don't deserve it) and happy happy joy joy for everyone hahahah
1.Cash or actually win a wsop event in June
2.Continue to develop my NL game...I want to play 10-20NL consistently by the end of the year (I am currently playing 5-5/5-10 on occasion)
3.Continue to beat up the 10-20limit game at Rama....
4.Win a Port Perry tourney...closest I came was in 2005 when I finished 12th...
5.Continue to teach the game to anyone who wants to learn.
They kick my ass all the time.
Swimming upstream in this fish bowl is tough.
??? This is for Christy.
Now my own poker goals.
1) Make it into the degree.
2) Parlay my $30 from CPF bux on supreme into $1K
3) Win a Westside and a Bristol. OK I"ll take just getting into the money at Bristol since I seem not to play anywhere near my best there.
4) Become a better all around player, Cash MTT SNG Omaha, stud hi/low Razz Bagedui.
- Pushing all my chips in on a bluff with my fingers literally crossed
- Stop making the "O" face when i turn river my nut flush
- I think people are onto the line "Guess it's time for me to go home" when i have the nuts?
- stop subliminal betting.. $22 (when I have pocket 2's etc)
Johnnie - I fear that your second goal will result in a direct contravention your first one
My goal is to perfect my SWOT Analysis strategy for Poker.
It is something I do every day at work and have been using it ever since, I believe it was Sloth, mentioned using his fingers as important reminders when deep into a tournament and getting tired.
I liked his thought process and realized that it closely aligned with SWOT Analysis - all year I have incorporated this into my play and have found it to be effective in both live and online play.
There is room for improvement and that is my goal for 2007.

BRACELET
I'd like to get to the Casino more too!!!!
and as for Mark...it's all because of his fancy blue ball(s)?
1) Play in a WPT event this year in Niagara Falls
2) Put together a plan of action re: bankroll - and stick to it
3) Keep learning from my mistakes
4) Try to lessen the mistakes I make
5) Win another online MTT (100+ players)
6) Cash at another live MTT (50+ players)
Playing cash games 90% of time is fine, however the few plays in enter tourney play it almost always cash.
So why aren't I playing in more tourneys? Questions that boggle the mind, from over here at least.
That and establishing better positional play, my weakest area maybe.
Jay
-Qualify for WPT NA champ main event.
-basically keep playing and learning.
1) Qualify for two or more major tournaments with the highest "Skill Level" of 6, e.g., at least one of the four World Poker Tour events at Niagara Falls, or the excellent tournaments at Brantford Casino.
2) Win more cash than my buy-ins in tournaments, instead of just winning seats. Avoid playing in tournaments with a Skill Level lower than 5.
3) Help to organize and/or play in a poker league that leads to a major tournament seat.
Update: I am currently #1 in the league that I joined with a WSOP prize package. My updated goal is to set records in that league and start off with a huge chip lead at the grand championship.
4) Win a special poker event, e.g., Pirana Poker Olympics or Royal Cup.
5) Win consistenly in cash games, using game selection, seat selection, bankroll management and low-limit strategies.
Update: I have had a few more losing sessions than winning sessions in 2007, but using post-session analysis, I am ahead most of the time when I get my money in the big pots that I have lost, e.g., AA vs. TT, KK vs. TT, AK vs. A8. I see many opponents keep making bad decisions, so I will be patient with the "Game Selection Gap Concept", i.e., the amount of money you make in poker is based on the gap between your skill level and your opponents' skill level.
6) Take notes and analyze hands played.
7) Track all poker results on PokerTracking.com.
Update: Failed to keep this up-to-date so far.
8 ) Finish reading my poker books. For example, a forum friend generously got me an autographed copy of The Mathematics of Poker by Bill Chen, who won two WSOP events in 2006. Chen referred to me as "Bingo"!
9) Minimize time on other poker-related activities such as poker forums and badly-structured games unless I have worked on #6 - #8 above.
Update: I have spent too much time on forums compared to #6-#8.
1) spend more time in the gym than playing poker; [didn't happen, although I did play more selective poker in 2007 and spent less time online which is a good thing from my perspective]
2) make it onto the poker player database on the Hendon Mob (i.e. play in one major tournament and place in the money); [didn't play in any tournaments that qualified. Hope to play in some of the CPT Brantford events in 2008]
3) be the first player to make it to the final six tables on Degree for the second time (unlikely but why not); [whatever; I would have been happy if one of the forum members made it to the tournament]
4) Play in more Kitchener based tournaments and take one down! [there seems to be a lot less Kitchener based tournaments in 2007 unfortunately; did play in RC4 and placed 2nd in Omaha and won my NLH session which was a positive result (especially with Sir Watts at both tables]
5) Breakeven in Bradford (real long shot) [of course this is still outstanding ]
I really need to print off my goals for 2008 and keep them nearby.
Maybe start a new thread JAH?
Anger management. Yes.
Casino more often. No. Maybe next year.
