Blind Structure Help Please

If anyone can help suggest a suitable blind structure, it would be appreciated. We are having a small tournament at the office tomorrow (sweat) for charity. Here are the details:

NLH
5,000 in starting chips
14 players, want the tournament to last 3 hours max.

Are 20 minute blinds too tight? If so, please provide what you think would be optimal. Cheers.

  • going to have dealers or will you be passing the deck(s)?
  • Two words.....

    ZITH AL

He's the blind master...well he can see ok it's just, well, you know what I mean?!
  • I'd go with 20 minute blinds:

    25/50
    50/100
    100/200 (1 hour)
    200/400
    300/600
    500/1000 (2 hours)
    800/1600
    1200/2400
    1800/3600 (3 hours)

    /g2
  • self deal; do you think 1,800/3,600 would be a good final blind level with 70,000 chips in play?

Generally a tourney will end when there are about 20BB left on the table (learned that from Zithal). 70000/20 = 3500.

  • pokerJAH, g2's structure is fine, but if you want breaks, below is my suggested structure. My assumption is that maximizing the Skill Level or poker play is not a priority, but that your coworkers want the event to finish within 3 hours.

    1) 25/50 (20-minute blinds)
    2) 50/100
    3) 100/200
    5-10 minute break and chip-up
    4) 200/400
    5) 400/800
    6) 500/1000
    Break and chip-up
    7) 1000/2000
    8 ) 2000/4000
    9) 4000/8000 (if necessary).

The expected length of the event will be 2 1/2 - 3 hours. The Skill Level is 3, which is better than most underground club tournaments! I wished I worked at your office so I could play!

  • Me likes G2's suggestion
  • Negreanu's suggested tournament format:

    10,000 starting chips

    (25-25)
    25-50
    50-100
    100-200
    100-200 (25)
    150-300 (50)
    200-400 (50)
    300-600 (75)
    400-800 (100)
    500-1000(100)
    600-1200(200)
    800-1600(200)
    1000-2000(300)
    1200-2400(400)
    1500-3000(500)
    2000-4000(500)
    3000-6000(1000)
    4000-8000(1000)
    5000-10000(1000)
    6000-12000(2000)
    8000-16000(2000)
    10000-20000(3000)

For the major events this structure should be used with 90 minute levels. For fun little home games you can up the blinds every 10 hands, 10 minutes, or every round (depending on # of players).

    6 1000 chips
    5 500 chips
    12 100 chips
    12 25 chips
  • Negreanu's blind schedule is similar to Fallview's blinds for the WPT events, but better. Many players hate playing with antes, so antes are usually not used at club tournaments or home games.

Since Fallsview will be using a single blind schedule for all their upcoming tournaments, I will be recommending using that same schedule for the various tournaments I am involved with. While it may not be as good as the WSOP or Negreanu's, players that hope to cash in at Fallsview's tournaments may as well get as much practice with it.
