dealing with tilt and a bad run
Hi everyone.
I'm new here, from the East Coast.
I've been playing poker for about a year now, so needless to say I have a lot to learn about the game. I've read most of the staple books on holdem (Supersystem, HoH, Theory of Poker, etc) and I do consider myself a pretty good player that shows a profit (be it not a huge one) with both online and live play.
My biggest problem with poker itself is the roller coaster ride I'm often on. Have you ever thought one day that you are an awesome player, and the next day you are a complete idiot? I get that all the time. I'm only starting to realize the difference between bad play and bad beats. Even though bad beats are out of my control, it still makes me angry when someone sucks out a 2 outer on the river in various hands. It also makes me angry when people get lucky when they've made a mistake. I think poker is one of the only games where mistakes can be profitable, which is frustrating to someone who tries to make a point not to make mistakes.
Another problem I have is the inevitable bad run of cards we all get. Sometimes it seems I'll never get another good hand... and if I do the flop hits someone else hard. Bluffing in these situations will only get you so far, sooner or later you have to get a hand.
So, how does everyone here deal with these problems? I'm sure I'm not the only one on the roller coaster ride.
