GBH vs RAMA - more bang for the buck?

I was thinking of heading to one of these casinos on Thursday to play a little NLH. If my budget is say $200, what would you recommend as the best bang for my buck? I know GBH has a single table tournament on Thursday but I'm not sure if it is a crap shoot. Not sure if Rama has something similar but I guess they have the satellites into the Fall classic running most days. Probably will play a little 1/2; which casino has the better rake? Any assistance would be appreciated!

  • Great Blue Heron's $100 and $200 "mini-tournaments" have what is referred to as a "Skill Level" of 1. In other words, pokerJAH, they are like the Labatt Blue Chip Poker crapshoots we played in, except it will cost you your whole budget of $200, including a rake of 9%.

Casino Rama's $150+10 satellite has an even faster structure with a Skill Level of 0. :-[ The rake is less at 6%. The only other advantage is that 4 out of the 11 players get paid, so if you get lucky enough, you may get your money back.

As far as I know, GBH does not have any no-limit cash games. I think you will need more than $200 bankroll available to play a session of NL. If I have to pick up my Fall Classic seat at Casino Rama, I will probably play the NL cash game there and if I am up $160, I will gamble on the turbo satellite.

When I have time, I will create a thread on what I have found to be the best tournaments in Ontario. If anybody wants any tournament they will play in rated, PM me the tournament details, including the starting stack, blind duration and blind/ante schedule.
  • Thanks Blondefish for the feedback; I may try this strategy at Rama. Play a little NLH and if I am up a little, take my chance at the satellite. Will let you know how I do.
  • GBH is only limit cash games with the smallest being 5/10. The only NL Action within a drive from TO is either Niagara or Rama, unless you go stateside.
  • i would say rama, at the few times i was able to make it out for 1-2NL it's been pretty good, as a starter into a table, you can only buy in for $100 so your $200 bankroll won't be so bad......
