Cover Boy "All Aces".....
Just got back from Brantford , CPP mags all around the casino, and Mr. Armstrongs smiling mug on the cover. Congrads !!! Great article. Good luck at the WSOP next year if you decide to go. If I see you at the Ex, I will come over and say hi . Congrads again on all your success.

Obviously, my friends and family get a kick out of it, but hopefully people who don't know me at all will find the article interesting as well. It's a pretty tight shot for the cover, and I'm not 100% sure my face holds up under close scrutiny but I'm very happy with the picture, and with the article. The picture in the article makes me look a lot younger than I am for some reason, so I'm a big fan of that one....
My g/f has taken to carrying around a copy with her, and not-so-subtly holding it up next to/behind me.
Hopefully this won't make me a marked man at CPT events... but it may be a bit of a stretch to assume that people would recognize me. Nonetheless, yeah, it is definitely a trip to read about myself in a magazine. I could get used to it.

ps: What did you guys think of the article? I like what Dave did with the first paragraph, setting it up like it's a live tournament and then ending the paragraph with the fact that my g/f was on the couch, watching the whole time....
Cute! Sounds like you've got an adoring fan.
Are you kidding? It's *gold* if that happens. You'll get a lot of respect for yout blinds steals, erm, I mean, legitimate raises. And without the hassle of learning chip tricks, considered by many top pros as the key to success.
Don't worry. I'll be at the tournaments not-so-subtly holding it up next to/behind you. And I'll pretend to be reading the article and every now and then quitely remark, "MAN, this guy is good."

I want the mag autographed.
Very inspiring artical...bankroll management...bankroll management...god I got to keep that in my brain!
If you've seen me in action at the high limit PokerStars tables, you've probably seen me say things like: "Wow. You are really really good. Not.", or "I love people who chase gutshots to the river", or "I put you on 95o, that's why I didn't raise", etc.... I have taken some truly unbelievable beats at those tables, to the point where I now think that those games are not worth playing. I expect I'll be making a deposit at PokerRoom in the near future, keeping only what I need for the  pokerforum tourneys:mad: and the occasional $10+1 or $200+15 tournament at Stars.
As for bankroll management, it's easy to manage your bankroll when you're on a prolonged winning streak, and I'm only half-kidding...
If the suspense is killing you, as it should be , you can go to www.canadianpokerplayer.com to see the cover and read the article.

Well to tell the truth I was star gazing (actually drooling over some of the terrible play) at the 100/200 lhe table when I saw you playing there and you were doing just fine for the five minutes I was watching.
Hopefully the suckouts start sucking in your direction.
Jamie
OK I kind of drifted off for a bit there. Sorry, I'm back now.
Hi Jamie, I think you may have me confused with the millions of other 'aces'-type names at Stars. I haven't played the 100/200 game there, or anywhere. I don't have the bankroll or the intestinal fortitude for it yet. (Who said that... 'intestinal fortitude'... I ripped it off from somewhere.. possibly Dave S.?) You may be thinking of the 30/60 games. I was doing well for a while there, built my Stars roll up quite a bit, and then lost my profits back to a prolonged string of ugly beats, and possibly (probably) a few tilted hands on my part. Obviously I'm quite a bit better than even with that site, but I think I'm done with their cash games. It was demoralizing. Glad to hear the SNG's are going well for you. I like playing the occasional SNG as well, although I try to steer clear of the Turbo ones if I can help it. As for PokerRoom, the 25/50 games were *very* good to me. I can't comment on the lower limits, as I wasn't there for too long, and it was quite a while ago. If you check it out, best of luck!

You have any pro wrestlers on OTR lately? That's a classic pro wrestling line. Ah, my mispent youth.
Great article.
side note: i always buy the the magazine from chapters for like 7 bucks or whatever. do some casinos give it away for free, i usually play at rama and ocasionally port perry but i never see copies there. thanks.
Would you also shiver at the thought of playing back-up guitar while wearing a silly hat as Michael Landsberg sings a spoof of the Juicy Fruit song?
I would.

ScottyZ: Didn't we agree never to speak of that again? OK, OK, we made no such agreement. But could we? ;-)
Sloth: You were pretty much my hero when I saw you on the cover of CPP a while back, so I guess we're even... Thanks man.

Just wanted to add my congrats on the cover. I think what I like about your story is that this is what we all are trying to succed at & you have really started to "make it" in the poker world ((also you seem to not be getting to big a ego over all this!!))
Re ;the stars 30/60 ............I have been playing a bit with mixed results , it seems to me that alot of players are just betting/raising with any chance to make a hand..... do you find that?
Been offline alot latley due to a move but hope to see you all at the tables again.
Well... you'd have to ask my g/f about whether or not I'm getting a big head about all this, but I'm trying to keep it together. After all, my success in poker is trifling compared to *real* 'rags-to-riches' players like Erik Lingdren (sp?), Chris Moneymaker, etc... Every day, somebody somewhere in the world who doesn't have a huge poker bankroll wins a tournament and a large sum of money, so I don't consider myself to be special in that regard. I am however trying to make sure that I keep working on my game, to hopefully ensure that my list of poker accomplishments continues to grow from here, instead of ending at this article.
As for the Stars 30/60 games, did we ever play together there? You seem to describe my overall experience in those games perfectly: a lot of players betting and raising with any chance to make a hand. Sounds like an ideal situation. Problem is, when I was there, they were actually making them, in bizarre, innovative, and shocking ways. C'est la vie. There's a reason I decided to focus on tournaments instead of ring games... I have a hard time adjusting to what are perfectly normal swings to my bankroll. I built it, and I hate seeing any part of it destroyed, even a relatively small part. Basically, I hate losing, but who doesn't? The thing is that if I lose a tournament, I lose the buy-in... usually not a big deal. A losing night at the 30/60 tables on the other hand could cost a few G's, and it gets tiring when you have to 'get back on that horse', only to face the same string of unlikely beats.
Am I a sore loser? Maybe... but it's funny how protective of your bankroll you can be when you actually have a decent bankroll to protect.
Good luck at the tables.

all_aces
AA rocks.
Its easy to cheer for a guy when he seems just like *one of us*. He has also been quite helpful to me and I'm sure countless other relatively new participants on the forum.
No.. I never played the 30/60 with you ...just read on this thread about your experince & it was just like mine. I have been playing alittle this week after getting back online & cannot beleve how they play , also notice the same play on 100/200. Is this how high stakes B&M is played as well I wonder? I played 15/30 in LV & saw nothing that agressive.
Will try some rebuys this weekend & maybe the Stars 200 on Sunday.....
Good Luck!
Mark
Chris, I had to chuckle a bit at you saying that my posts are 'mostly' intelligent... actually, I laughed my ass off, because God knows they aren't all intelligent, lol...
Mark: My experience with semi-high-stakes live games (ie: 20/40) is that they aren't nearly as 'throw-the-chips-in-and-hope-for-the-best' as online games are. There are a number of reasons for this, as has been discussed in previous threads... first and foremost, the fact that you are an anonymous player online makes it easier if you are inclined to play like a jackass. You can't actually see the looks of horror, disbelief, and disgust on the faces of your opponents. Also, it's easy for a relatively low-limit player with $600 to take a shot at a round of $30/$60, play like a maniac, win a couple of hands, and leave. In a casino, this process would involve putting your name on a list, getting out of your seat, buying more chips, walking over to the 'big' game, playing a round, and then reversing the process to get back into a lower limit game. Also, not only do you not have to actually look at the cash you're betting online, you don't have to physically move chips from your stack to the pot. This seems to make some players more inclined to raise or call with, at best, borderline hands.
As you can see, I've given the 'online vs. B&M idiot ratio' some thought.... I could probably go on, but I will spare us all, and stop there. Except to say that in general, the play in tournaments (with exceptions, of course, like rebuy tournaments) seems to be almost the same online as you'd see at a B&M tournament. Not so with cash games.
