Say it ain't so James

C'mon, I like poker as much as all of you but this is silly. Bond plays Baccarat, not hold em. Unless he is hooking himself up to a 1980s video game of world domination and gets electroshocked by Largo...

  • As a huge fan of the books I welcome the change. It would be too difficult to explain the rules and make the scene (although I haven't seen them yet but I know what they are in the book) dramatic.
  • more fuel for the fire.... I say why not. Maybe he has been watching the Sunday afternoon WPT events on CityTV (on satellite of course) and he got hooked like the rest of us.
  • I agree with Flint here; I don't think many would understand Baccarat...though I think it does make more sense (not just because it's in the original book), since Baccarat is considered a 'high class/for the rich game. Then again I'm sure it will have more appeal to this generation....and apparently one of the bad guys is a free runner...you know those gymnasts that run around doing crazy tricks in an urban environment.

I'm actually pretty damn excited for the movie...James Bond going somewhat back to its roots...and I've been a fan of Daniel Craig since Layer Cake - that movie is awesome!
  • So I finally saw this movie yesterday and I have to say it was pretty cool. Don't worry, I won't post any spoilers...

The scenes near the beginning when they are running up and down the cranes is insane. I have no idea who those stuntment were, but they definitely look like Parkour ninja's. Just a jaw dropping series of manouveurs.

Daniel Craig plays a good Bond. I like how they changed him from a wimpy kind of guy to a rugged ass kicker. The new Bond is a bastard, and I'm interested to see where they are going with this. A lot of the action was really hardcore, good fight scenes and stunts.

The poker scenes were pretty hilarious. I don't know about you guys, but to me it seemed like the writers decided to create the entire movie around the poker. I never saw the original Casino Royale, so I am not sure how different this new one is, but it looked like they really wanted to take advantage of the poker craze and build the entire movie around it. The dialogue in and around the big game was so dumb and rehearsed, but I guess they needed to dumb it down a bit for the unitiated.

BTW - Paul Haggis (a Canadian who did Crash) wrote this movie. I wonder if he is a big poker player. I'm guessing yes.

Nevertheless, this movie was still Aces. Not perfect, but definitely enjoyable. Go check it out.
  • I do think parts of the movie were well done, ie the crane scene, and Craig turned out to be an awesome bond. But I mean, he killed what, 5 guys total maybe? Compared to the 50 love scenes? Not what I was looking forward to.
  • i agree that was one crazy brother. i mean dam he has more moves then jackie Chan and Jet Li put together. none combat wise.
